IndiGo, India's preferred airline, announces exclusive daily direct flights between Chennai and Penang, starting December 21, 2024. Penang will be IndiGo's third direct destination in Malaysia, following Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi. Royal Brunei Airlines launches direct flights to Chennai
Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) announced the official launch of its new direct flight route between Bandar Seri Begawan and Chennai, India. RB’s Airbus A320neo landed at Chennai International Airport on Tuesday, 5th November, at approximately 22:50LT and was greeted by a water cannon salute. This new connection signifies a significant expansion in RB's global network. It also marks a historic step in strengthening the cultural, economic, and people-to-people ties between Brunei Darussalam and India. Royal Brunei Airlines' new route offers three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, providing seamless travel for leisure and business passengers. Passengers will travel aboard the modern Airbus A320neo, known for its quiet and fuel-efficient performance. Tourism Authority of Thailand to host Amazing Thailand Fest 2024 in Chennai
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced that it is bringing the best that Thailand has to offer to India via Amazing Thailand Fest @ Chennai. The event runs from 27 to 29 September at the Central Atrium of the Express Avenue Mall in Chennai, India, and is supported by the Royal Thai Consulate General, Thai Trade Center, Commercial Section, and the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) in Chennai. The Amazing Thailand Fest offers a variety of activities revolving around five “Must Do” experiences in the country: Must Taste, Must Try, Must Buy, Must Seek, and Must See. These were designed to create lasting impressions and convey Thailand’s soft power to would-be travellers. These activities are spread throughout various zones, including a tourism information booth from TAT and Team Thailand, a zone featuring contemporary Thai fashion and the historical connections between Thai and Indian fabrics, a zone with a green screen where visitors may take pictures in different Thai locations, and a Muay Thai zone showcasing the globally-renowned martial art. Key Highlights (July 2024) July 2024 saw a year-on-year growth of over 7% in domestic air passenger traffic in India. Pune and Chennai registered the highest occupancy rates for the month, ranging from 76-79%. Meanwhile, Kolkata, New Delhi, and Chandigarh led the growth in occupancy, each showing an increase of 6-8 percentage points compared to the previous year. Average rates saw significant year-on-year increases both nationally and in specific markets. However, Goa was an exception, with rates dropping by 3-5% compared to the previous year, while remaining above INR 8,500. Despite a relatively modest rise in occupancy rates in July 2024, Mumbai continued to record the highest average rates, exceeding INR 10,500 - a 21-23% increase from the previous year.

Thai AirAsia introduces direct flights to Chennai and Kolkata
AirAsia Thailand introduces two new direct flights from Phuket to Chennai and Kolkata in India. These new routes are part of Thai AirAsia’s ongoing expansion in India. Slated to take off on 27 October, these new flights allow travelers from two of India’s key cities to fly directly to Phuket. According to Thai AirAsia CEO Santisuk Klongchaiya: “By establishing direct routes from our Phuket hub, AirAsia is at the same time extending its international network beyond Bangkok.” Klongchaiya added that the airline has waited for this opportunity to expand its network further into the Indian Subcontinent, offering flights to and from India’s major cities on a regular basis.
