Join the “Sea of Glamour” and Preserve Ocean Travel Memories with Cunard

In the age of digital overdrive, there’s a growing worry that our precious memories might be slipping away. A recent study by Cunard reveals some shocking stats: a whopping 265 billion images are snapped every year in the UK and the U.S. alone, yet a meagre 3% of people print those memories. The study even found that 72% of folks are concerned that if we don’t get printing, future generations might lose access to these snapshots of their lives. To mark a stunning 185 years of ocean travel, Cunard is on a mission to bridge this memory gap and preserve the glamour of the high seas. They’re calling on the public to help co-create a global exhibition curated by the renowned British photographer Mary McCartney. This ‘Sea of Glamour’ exhibition will launch at the Liver Building in Liverpool this May and aims to capture nearly two centuries of iconic moments. From Hollywood stars to political legends, Cunard’s archives are brimming with fascinating photos. Now, they want YOU to add to the collection! Whether you’re a guest, employee, or celebrity, your unforgettable moments onboard a Cunard ship can be part of this once-in-a-lifetime exhibition. As Cunard Archivist Siân Wilks from the University of Liverpool Library puts it, “The Cunard archive is an incredible collection that captures the brand’s rich history, making it accessible to all.” Mary McCartney will even take the final photograph herself, capturing a unique portrait of Queen Anne’s Icons in Liverpool on opening day. Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, emphasises the importance of this initiative: “By sharing your experiences, you’ll help create an exhibition that brings Cunard’s history to life for everyone to enjoy.” Don’t miss this chance to immortalise your treasured memories and be part of Cunard’s remarkable history. Submit your favourite moments by 9th March 2025, and your photo could set sail around the world! Meanwhile, Katie McAlister, Cunard’s president, is steering the company into an exciting new era of luxury cruising. Their combined leadership represents a significant milestone for Cunard and the maritime industry as a whole. Innovative Design and Artistic Vision The design of Queen Anne was led by creative director Adam Tihany, who assembled a team of world-class designers to create a ship that reflects Cunard’s rich art-deco heritage while embracing modern elegance. One of the standout features is the ship’s exclusive collection of 4,300 pieces of art, commissioned from both emerging and established artists worldwide. Each piece offers a unique interpretation of Cunard’s iconic legacy, making Queen Anne a floating art gallery. Elevated Onboard Entertainment Queen Anne elevates onboard entertainment to new heights with innovative venues and experiences, including the “Bright Lights Society,” an intimate cabaret-style venue. Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 joins coastal clean-up in Dominica

The crew of Cunard’s flagship vessel Queen Mary 2 ushered in the holidays last month by joining a coastal clean-up at Salisbury Beach on the west coast of Dominica. The call to Dominica was part of a roundtrip Caribbean Celebration voyage from New York. The two-hour effort was jointly organised by the ship’s environmental compliance officer, Robert Price, together with representatives from the Discover Dominica Authority and Salisbury Council. An extensive clean-up operation The Cunard team, along with 12 local volunteers, swept 20,000 square metres of beach front, collecting hundreds of discarded items, totalling an impressive 25kg of waste in 30 bags of rubbish. The group removed an array of glass, plastics, fishing nets, ropes, metal bars, and bottle tops. Ship captain Aseem Hashmi said: “Our wonderful team of volunteers are very proud to have participated in Queen Mary 2’s first Dominica beach clean-up and through their passion for sustainability and environmental protection, helped make a big difference to the local marine environment. This initiative is a reflection of our shared responsibility to preserve the beauty and health of these vital ecosystems for future generations. By working together with local communities, we aim to inspire meaningful change and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future." The initiative complements a series of UK beach cleans, in support of the Marine Conservation Society, that Cunard’s shoreside teams have conducted throughout 2024.

Unlocking the Benefits of Ocean Travel with Cunard: A Voyage to Wellbeing

For over 180 years, Cunard has been a beacon of the rejuvenating power of ocean travel. Recent groundbreaking research conducted on Cunard’s flagship, Queen Mary 2, has confirmed what many travellers have long believed: spending time at sea can significantly enhance mental and emotional well-being. The study revealed that just five days on a Transatlantic Crossing can positively impact various cognitive abilities, such as memory, logical reasoning, perceptual abilities, and problem-solving. Groundbreaking Study Highlights In a pioneering neuroscience study conducted by the Human Understanding Agency, 40 guests from around the world embarked on the iconic Transatlantic Crossing from Southampton to New York. Researchers used biometric tools to measure cognitive and physiological changes before and after five days at sea, and the results were nothing short of remarkable: Memory: Word recall improved by 29%, showcasing enhanced short-term memory performance. Problem-Solving: Complex logical and spatial reasoning tasks saw a staggering 125% improvement. Attention: Focus during visual tasks improved by 14%. Relaxation: Self-reported relaxation levels increased by 158%, while overall physiological stress levels decreased by 35%, reflecting the calming influence of the voyage. Dr. Jack Lewis, a neuroscientist, commented on the findings, stating, “The main stress hormone cortisol is well-known in the science research literature to interfere with various cognitive processes. So the boost in memory and logical reasoning capacity identified in this study is likely attributed to the stress-relieving impact of ocean travel.” The Cunard Experience: More Than a Holiday Cunard’s Transatlantic Crossing is not just a journey across the ocean; it’s a transformative experience designed to enhance wellbeing. The study’s findings highlight the unique benefits of ocean travel with Cunard, but the advantages go beyond cognitive improvements. Each element of the voyage is thoughtfully crafted to foster relaxation and renewal: Enriching Experiences: The Cunard Insights programme offers captivating lectures by world-renowned experts, providing intellectual stimulation and cultural enrichment. Personalised Wellness Treatments: Guests can indulge in bespoke wellness treatments designed to rejuvenate both body and mind. White Star Service: Cunard’s celebrated service ensures every moment aboard is distinguished by personalised attention and elegance.
