Etihad Airways is celebrating its 20th anniversary with an early peek of the new-look Boeing 787 Dreamliner at the Dubai Airshow 2023. This week’s Dubai Airshow features Etihad’s new-look Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The new Etihad Airways aircraft has greater leg room in Economy, full-recline Business class beds, and enhanced entertainment options. Following the arrival of a new 787-10 in October, the UAE’s national airline showcases its latest Boeing 787-9, one of four new Dreamliners to join the fleet. Etihad’s new 787 Dreamliner cabin interior highlights improvements to the airline’s award-winning cabins. The aeroplane has the newest cabin interior from Etihad, with 32 seats in Business class and 271 seats in Economy. The Business cabin has a one-of-a-kind, modified version of Collins’ Elements seat. Etihad is the world’s first airline to use the Elements seat on the Boeing 787. Each of the 32 Business seats has direct aisle access and reclines to a 78-inch-long, completely lie-flat bed with a 17.3-inch 4K TV screen, Bluetooth headphone pairing, wireless charging, several charging outlets, and lots of storage. The new 787 offers lighter, therefore more fuel-efficient, seats than the present fleet, with 244 regular seats and 27 Economy Space seats with four inches greater legroom. The new 787 Dreamliner has Safran’s latest in-flight entertainment technology equipment, including Rave Ultra 13.3″ 4K touch-screen displays and the ability to link personal phones and tablets to the screen as a remote. The aircraft is fitted with a new connectivity solution from Viasat that uses Ka-band technology to provide high-speed Wi-Fi with streaming capabilities on board and Live TV with news and sports channels. All Etihad Guest members may enjoy complimentary conversation packages via Wi-Fly, while all guests can purchase a full Surf plan with unlimited data for the length of the flight. The new aircraft will fuel Etihad’s expansion aspirations, as the airline has added 12 new destinations this year, with more flights to India, Boston, and Nairobi set to launch in the coming months. The airline has also recently increased its operations in several regions, adding flight frequencies and improving network connections. “Our 20th anniversary is a pivotal moment where we not only celebrate the airline’s achievements to date but, more importantly, set a strong foundation and path for growth into the future,” stated Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways. These new planes will be fundamental in helping us achieve the ambitious plans we have already set into motion to expand our fleet and connect more guests more conveniently to more destinations. Etihad Welcomed First Of Four New B787-10 Dreamliner To Its Fleet
Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, welcomed the newest member of its growing fleet on Friday, 13 October, when the brand-new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner arrived at Abu Dhabi International Airport. On 15 October, following an in-depth inspection by the technical team at Etihad, the brand-new arrival was put into service and began flying passengers. “The arrival of our latest 787 Dreamliner underlines our passion to grow this year by enhancing the quality of our customer experience and the reach of our network,” said Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways. “This is all a part of our vision 2030, which supports our growth and has recently been demonstrated by the fact that we began operating new destinations to Osaka, Copenhagen, and Dusseldorf two weeks ago.” This aircraft, together with the three Dreamliner 787-9s that will follow shortly, has a fuel efficiency up to 25 percent better than many other comparable aircraft of its size. It has been precisely three years to the day after Etihad took delivery of their last Boeing 787-10, which happened on 13 October 2020. Today’s arrival comes exactly three years later.
United Airlines Orders 50 B787 Dreamliners
United Airlines and Boeing have announced that the airline is extending its 787 Dreamliner fleet by exercising options to acquire 50 787-9 planes and gaining an additional 50 options. The latest Dreamliner purchase gives United additional flexibility as it modernises its global fleet over the next decade. “We’re building a bright future at United, and this order takes our already successful United Next plan into the next decade and beyond,” said Scott Kirby, president and CEO of United Airlines. “Our long-term planning and focus have enabled us to surge ahead of other airlines that have stalled.” I’m confident in our plan as we continue adding new, larger aircraft to take full advantage of our growing international and domestic flying opportunities.” United has the largest Dreamliner order book on record, with 150 firm orders, and is poised to become the world’s largest 787 operator. The announcement comes on the back of the airline’s record-breaking acquisition of 100 787 jets last year. United’s existing fleet of more than 70 Dreamliners is the first to operate all three variants of the 787 series. United’s extensive global route network is made possible by the 787’s fuel efficiency and dependability. “United’s unprecedented commitment to the 787 Dreamliner family is a testament to the market-leading operating economics and reliability of Boeing’s widebody jets,” said Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Aeroplanes. “With the 787, United will enjoy all the synergies of operating one of the largest, most efficient fleets in the skies.” Depending on the configuration, the 787 enhances efficiency and performance and lowers fuel usage and emissions by up to 25% compared to the planes it replaces. The 787-9 has a globe-spanning range that allows airlines to fly up to 7,565 nautical miles (14,010 km) with up to 296 people on board. With over 1,800 orders from 87 customers, including more than 870 repeat orders from 56 repeat customers, the 787 is the best-selling widebody in history. Customers have made approximately 350 orders and commitments for the 787 family in the last twelve months. TUI celebrates 10 years creating holiday memories on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner
TUI Airways, part of TUI Airline, marks 10 years of flying with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircrafts, with the first passenger flight taking place on 21st June 2013 to Menorca from London Gatwick airport. TUI celebrated the occasion by surprising passengers on a 787 Dreamliner flight to Rhodes today at London Gatwick airport with cupcakes and balloons and gave each passenger a luggage tag and premium Rituals pack. The addition of this fuel-efficient, long-haul aircraft made TUI Airways the first airline in the UK to use the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The fleet now includes 19 aircraft across TUI Airlines’, with 13 used specifically for UK customers flying to popular long-haul destinations like Florida, Mexico, the Caribbean and Thailand to name a few. The TUI Airways fleet is a mix of 787-8 and 787-9s, with the first 787-8 Dreamliner delivery arriving on 31st May 2013 from Seattle to Manchester. Collectively, they have accumulated 401,377 flight hours, meaning it has returned over 7,500,000 million TUI passengers from package holidays. The aircraft on average travels at a speed of 600-650 miles per hour and has covered roughly 241 million miles, which is more than 9600 miles around the planet. And that’s not all, Dreamliners use up to 20% less fuel than other long-haul aircraft which reduces both carbon monoxide and nitrous oxide emissions with its cutting-edge manufacturing technologies that use carbon fibre. Marco Ciomperlik, Chief Airline Officer of TUI Group, stated: TUI Airline’s Vision and Mission is to create happy holidays with every flight and as sustainability is an integral part of that, we’re incredibly proud to be championing more sustainable travel, providing more eco and fuel-efficient aircraft for our customers.” Dawn Wilson, Chief Operating Officer of TUI Airline, said: “We’re thrilled to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of our first 787 Dreamliner passenger flight this year. The addition of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to the TUI Airways fleet allowed us to expand our long-haul flying programme to many of our customers favourite holiday hotspots around the world.” Malcolm Sutherland, Managing Director of TUI Airways, spoke of his own experience as a TUI pilot: “The 787 is an amazing aircraft and truly deserves the Dreamliner name. It’s sustainability credentials are second to none with around 20% lower fuel usage and emissions, and 60% reduction in noise footprint, compared with aircraft it has replaced. This low noise translates into the highest levels of passenger comfort in the cabin. It’s also fast, cruising at around 85% of the speed of sound. It’s unrivalled performance allows us to connect regional airports to the world, our customers travelling in comfort, with less time airborne and in the most sustainable way possible.” In 2019, after the addition of the 787 Dreamliner’s, TUI Airways was awarded the most eco-efficient leisure airline in the world. What’s more, on the 1st June 2023 TUI Airways introduced new inflight content with HBO access movies to expand its in-flight entertainment. Jonathan Pollard, Chief Commercial Officer, London Gatwick said: “TUI’s 787 Dreamliner has been a fantastic addition to London Gatwick’s airfield over the past 10 years, expanding TUI’s outstanding offer to a range of popular long-haul destinations. We are delighted to continue our excellent relationship with TUI and its passengers at London Gatwick, and look forward to the next 10 years.” What makes the Dreamliner special? Bigger Windows The windows on a 787 Dreamliner are about 30% bigger than those on the average plane. Room Overhead Even at its lowest point, the Dreamliner cabin is over 6-foot high, providing a real sense of space. More Oxygen It's well-known that people leave the plane feeling fresher. This is because its cabin pressure allows more oxygen to be absorbed into your blood. Mood Lighting It supports the body clock, as the plane features a high-spec mood lighting system that can mimic things like dawn and dusk. A Quieter Flight The Dreamliner will generate 60 per cent less noise than standard planes during take-off and landing and it’s quieter in the air too. Technical information: Composite material While standard planes are metal, the Dreamliner is made of something called composite – a combination of different materials. It means it’s stronger, lighter and more aerodynamic. Ultra fast The plane flies at Mach 0.85. That’s the equivalent of 640 miles per hour – about three times faster than a Formula 1 car at full throttle. Powerful engines When it comes to powerful engines, the Dreamliner’s take some beating. Each one has enough power to supply energy to two million iPods at the same time. More fuel-efficient Thanks to its composite structure and revolutionary engines, the plane is more fuel-efficient and emits less CO2 – about 20 per cent less carbon on a flight from Britain to America. A bigger reach The 787 Dreamliner can fly about 8,000 miles without stopping, which means it can go direct to destinations other planes can’t reach.

Boeing Temporarily Suspends 787 Dreamliner Deliveries
The delivery of Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner aircraft has been delayed while an investigation into a fuselage component is carried out. Late last week, the news was made public by both Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Before the aviation manufacturer can deliver again, they must demonstrate to the FAA that the problem has been fixed. “There is no immediate threat to the flight safety of the fleet currently in operation.” Boeing has stated that they are in the process of engaging with its customers and will continue to follow the lead of the FAA. Even though short-term deliveries will be affected, we do not foresee a change in our production and delivery projection for the year. Boeing claims to have discovered “an analytical mistake by our supplier linked to the 787 front pressure bulkhead.” As soon as the problem with the fuselage component has been fixed, production of the aeroplane will resume. Furthermore, the FAA is working with Boeing to “identify any steps that would be necessary for recently delivered aeroplanes.”
