Dusit Thani Hua Hin GM Pipat Patthananusorn Embraces The Role He Sees As Both Privilege And Responsibility

Travel Daily Media sat down with the top man at Dusit Thani Hua Hin, to discuss what makes the resort a top choice for visitors the world over and his vision for Hua Hin as a top destination. Travel Daily Media (TDM): As general manager of Dusit Thani Hua Hin, could you give us your thoughts and perspective on what it’s like to be at the helm of such an iconic and much-loved resort. Pipat Patthananusorn: It is both a privilege and a humbling responsibility to lead Dusit Thani Hua Hin. For over three decades, the resort has been synonymous with gracious Thai hospitality, welcoming dignitaries, families, and leisure travellers from across the globe. To be entrusted with such a legacy is truly inspiring. My role is to safeguard the timeless charm that has defined the resort since 1990, while guiding it forward so it continues to resonate with today’s travellers and future generations. TDM: How does the property continue to evolve to meet the needs of today’s discerning travellers? Pipat: Modern travellers are increasingly seeking more than comfort; they look for authenticity, balance, and opportunities to reconnect with nature. Many of our guests lead demanding lives, and when they come to Hua Hin, they wish to slow down, restore, and nurture their wellbeing. Our Tree of Life Farm has become central to this journey - guests can stroll through rice paddies, meet our rescued buffaloes, feed goats, and pick fresh organic vegetables. These simple yet enriching experiences allow guests to reconnect with nature and rediscover the art of living in the present. Alongside the farm, we offer a wealth of wellness experiences, from restorative treatments at Devarana Spa to yoga by the sea and our saltwater pools. These, together with refined dining concepts and personalised Dusit Gold privileges, ensure every stay is both meaningful and memorable. TDM: And Hua Hin as a destination, how have you seen this evolve over the years? Pipat: Hua Hin has always been a place of distinction – Thailand’s original seaside retreat, steeped in royal heritage. Over the years, I have seen it grow into a destination of remarkable breadth. It still retains its timeless charm, but today it also offers world-class golf, gastronomy, and wellness experiences. Its vibrant markets, historic palaces, and vineyards make it a truly multifaceted destination. Importantly, Hua Hin has also developed into a hub for meetings and events, broadening its appeal beyond leisure and strengthening its position both domestically and internationally. TDM: Tell us more about some of the resort’s sustainability initiatives, such as the Dusit Organic Farm, and the ongoing commitment to wellness-led guest experiences. Pipat: Our Tree of Life Farm is a living expression of our sustainability and community values. Established during the pandemic, it has since become an integral part of the resort, not only supplying our kitchens with organic produce but also creating meaningful experiences for our guests. At the same time, wellness is woven throughout the guest journey. From tai chi and yoga on the beachfront to award-winning treatments at Devarana Spa, we encourage our guests to nurture both body and spirit. Even small touches – such as our fresh welcome drinks crafted from local fruits – reflect our belief that wellbeing should begin the moment one arrives. TDM: What do you feel are the key selling points of Dusit Thani Hua Hin that make it a top choice for leisure and MICE travellers alike? Pipat: I would highlight three key strengths: space, versatility, and service. With 115 rai of landscaped gardens and nearly 400 metres of private beachfront, our resort offers a sense of scale and tranquillity that is hard to match. Leisure guests enjoy award-winning swimming pools – one of which was recently recognised as the second-best hotel pool in Thailand by Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2024 – as well as a diverse range of dining experiences, from refined Thai cuisine at Benjarong to authentic Italian at San Marco and bold flavours at Nómada. For MICE, our facilities are equally compelling. The Royal Dusit Grand Ballroom accommodates over 1,000 guests, while The Stable – a beautifully restored equestrian stable – offers a distinctive venue for more intimate occasions. Combined with warm Thai hospitality and professional service, these features make Dusit Thani Hua Hin a trusted choice for both leisure and business. TDM: Tell us about your vision to ensure Hua Hin remains a thriving destination in both the domestic and international markets. Pipat: My vision is to see Hua Hin continue to prosper as a destination that balances heritage with innovation. It already has all the natural advantages – a royal legacy, beautiful surroundings, and a strong sense of community. Our role is to be custodians of this heritage while helping the town evolve in ways that inspire modern travellers. At Dusit Thani Hua Hin, we champion authentic Thai hospitality, support local producers, and create experiences that showcase both tradition and modernity. Looking ahead, I believe Hua Hin will continue to grow not only as a leisure retreat, but also as a hub for wellness, weddings, gastronomy, and international events. Furthermore, the development of Hua Hin Airport could play a vital role in this progress. If the airport resumes operations with more international and domestic routes in the future, it will greatly enhance accessibility for travellers from around the world – making it even easier for visitors to reach Hua Hin, a destination blessed with sea, mountains, waterfalls, and all the conveniences of modern hospitality. By collaborating closely with government, local partners, and the wider Dusit Hotels & Resorts network, I am confident Hua Hin will thrive as one of Asia’s most compelling destinations for years to come.

Making the most out of a stay at Chiva-Som Hua Hin

Throughout the past week, we’ve shared insights regarding the benefits a stay at Chiva-Som Hua Hin could have on one’s physical and mental health. Over several days, Travel Daily Media chief executive Gary Marshall shared his insights on his own personal experience at the resort, detailing both the pleasure of being there as well as the benefits offered by the various modalities and treatments on offer. As Gary himself puts it: “A stay at Chiva-Som Hua Hin is something I would recommend to everyone, from those in need of a respite from the stressful tedium of everyday life to those who need guided experiences for recovery or athletic conditioning." That said, the final installment of our series on Chiva-Som Hua Hin offers several tips with which those planning a stay, short or long, can take advantage of for a more meaningful wellness escape. Pointers for a healthful getaway Go for the consultations when you get there     Individual health and wellness assessments are included with every stay package, but the total physical analysis and skin consultation are optional. We recommend, however, that you make it a point to avail of these as findings can go a long way when it comes to devising your personal treatment or wellness plan; Be candid with your wellness advisor     Whether you’re going in for the standard assessments or add in the more specialised consultations, make it a point to be upfront with your wellness advisor. For this reason, be ready to share diagnostic information from your physician if necessary, or show them the standard workout plan you follow with your personal trainer back home; Attend your treatments and workouts as scheduled     We know you’ve booked yourself a getaway, but remember that you also booked this as a way of getting your systems back in sync. Make it a point to be there for your treatments, especially those involving physical therapy or cranial/stress relief. Likewise, keeping to mandated workout schedules ensures that your body becomes accustomed to a new or revised regimen; and Ask for a workout or wellness plan you can follow when you get home     Often, it is far too easy to forget the routines you had whilst on vacation no matter how good these are for your overall wellness. Be sure to bring a bit of the Chiva-Som experience back home by asking your wellness advisor or fitness trainer as to how to manage workouts when you’re back on your own or with your regular exercise coach. This also applies to nutrition, so have a talk with the on-site nutritionist on how best to follow your diet when the trip is over. Surround yourself with the wellness-boosting power of nature The beauty of Chiva-Som Hua Hin is that it is located in a natural paradise which has its own way of giving guests a healthily relaxing experience. Breathe deep     We mentioned in one of the first articles in the series that breathing salt air at the coastline offers a variety of health benefits, including improved skin and respiratory health, as well as calming stressed-out minds. Chiva-Som Hua Hin’s refreshing atmosphere ensures that guests make the most out of the experience. Plus, for those in need of guided stress relief and relaxation, the aromatherapy solutions offered by the resort run the gamut of essential oils that have been used in the traditional practice of ensuring wellness for generations; Go for a walk in nature     The Japanese concept of shinrin-yoku or forest bathing is one that is in practice at Chiva-Som Hua Hin. The resort actively talks about its initiatives in sustainability and offers guests the additional experience of touring through its own mangrove forests where they can learn more about its conservation efforts. If trekking through the forest isn’t your thing, a walk on the beach or taking part in watersports also helps; Ask about how you can live more sustainably     As stated above, sustainability is one of Chiva-Som Hua Hin’s core values and is something it wishes to impart to its guests. Have a go at it yourself by looking in on the resorts’ initiatives in organic farming and farm-to-table gastronomy. Doing so enables you to pick up a variety of pointers with which to start your own sustainability journey; Turn off your tech     Before we forget, some areas of the resort are no-phone zones. Besides, you’re at Chiva-Som to relax, unwind, and recover from the rigours of daily existence. Switching off your devices also means that you get to experience the amenities offered more deeply, enabling you to enjoy your stay in a more thorough manner; and Bring the organic experience home     Make it a point to look in on the resort’s boutique for a variety of items that will let you bring the island experience home. With products ranging from its own line of organic skincare solutions to a range of tasty treats made with the most wholesome ingredients, the boutique is a great way to bring Chiva-Som’s best into your everyday life. Chiva-Som Hua Hin strikes a balance between mind and body

The old adage Mens sana in corpore sano [a sound mind in a sound body] goes beyond mere words at Chiva-Som Hua Hin, as its onsite wellness team makes it a point to offer each guest an experience that incorporates the best ways to improve the body whilst relaxing from the tensions of everyday living. Indeed, the beauty of being able to offer the best in terms of holistic care means that guests are spoilt for choice with the number of activities that range from workouts meant to boost physical performance to massages and treatments that seek to soothe aching muscles and frazzled psyches. Also, thanks to discussions between wellness advisors and guests, these activities are properly integrated into everyone’s schedule: not as a regimented chore, but an exciting way to discover oneself whilst staying at Chiva-Som Hua Hin. Knowing exactly what you need We mentioned in the first article in our Chiva-Som Hua Hin series that a stay at the wellness destination begins with a one-on-one consultation with a member of the resort’s advisory team. What happens next is the creation of a workout, treatment, and dietary plan that perfectly suits each guest’s specific needs. In addition, the resort offers 16 curated retreat options that enable guests to enjoy themselves while getting the exact type of relaxing care or performance-boosting action that they need. These plans are offered for stays as short as three nights to as long as a full two weeks onsite. Guests are guided through activities by experts in physical fitness as well as general wellness, ensuring that they do not overly exert themselves and are able to balance both active time and relaxation. As Travel Daily Media’s Gary Marshall puts it: “Everything is done with the guidance of experts here. Some people do have a tendency to push themselves, and they do themselves more harm than good with that. The experts at Chiva-Som ensure everyone stays on an even keel so they get the full benefits of the experience and come away from their stay refreshed and revitalised.” Here’s to your health Regardless of whether you’re just beginning your fitness journey or you’re a hardened athlete getting ready for yet another gruelling competition, Chiva-Som Hua Hin’s in-house fitness team can guide you towards your goals with structured workouts that are meant to bring out the best in you. Even at their most basic, the fitness programmes at the resort are geared towards improving movement in different musculoskeletal groups, as well as breathing, stamina, and cardiac function. While some may opt for the gentle discipline of yoga or the more regimented approach of Pilates, others may choose to go in for extensive one-on-one time with a personal trainer, improve their strength through resistance-based aquatic exercise, or really get the adrenaline running with Chiva-Som Hua Hin’s renowned adventure training which involves up to 110 minutes of active biking through the surrounding environment. In some cases, physical therapy may also be mandated, especially for those recovering from accidents or major surgery, as well as athletes needing to reset themselves after competing. For all these options, Chiva-Som Hua Hin offers ample facilities with the appropriate equipment. Gary points out: “The experts know exactly which of your muscle groups to target when it comes to working out here. But, at the same time, if you’re recovering from anything from minor injuries to grave illnesses, the staff will make sure that you know your limits. It isn’t a ‘no pain, no gain’ situation here, but more of ‘let’s see how far you can go, and we’ll make adjustments from there.’ That’s a major thing.” Working towards wellness Some guests come in with a need to relax after days of hard work or have come for an escape from stressful moments in their lives. In many cases, the psycho-emotional stress takes a toll on one’s body as opposed to just the mind, leading to issues ranging from blinding migraines to digestive discomfort.  For these, Chiva-Som’s blend of massage, naturotherapy, as well as both traditional Thai and western relief methods come into play. Gary says: “During my visit, there were a few stress-related issues that needed to be dealt with, so an acupuncture session was recommended for me. What I found surprising was that it didn’t feel like any acupuncture I’ve had previously: the insertion of needles didn’t sting and having them on my body didn’t feel uncomfortable! What followed was relief.” But there’s more than just acupuncture here: one can get cranial relief treatments for chronic migraines and scalp tension; even a complete detoxification process which is necessary, especially for those living and working in highly urbanised areas. Ageing is also taken into serious consideration, and there are modalities that help people hop onto the threshold of their golden years in a better state of health and wellness. Meanwhile, those with issues regarding immunity and digestion are taken through a series of traditional modalities that are meant to boost the body’s defenses whilst relieving the tension that has caused their gut to seize up; these, in turn, are balanced by nutritive solutions. Chiva-Som also offers guests a wide range of spa therapies that can help improve one’s complexion, allow for improved lymphatic drainage, and align mind and body. For more information regarding the services, amenities, and accommodations at Chiva-Som Hua Hin, be sure to visit their official website.

Dining into wellness at Chiva-Som Hua Hin

Believe it or not, one of the things that affects anyone’s decision to go on a wellness retreat is actually the quality of the food offered at the destination. But for guests making their way to Chiva-Som Hua Hin, an exceptional gustatory experience awaits them, one far removed from the dietary privation that has become a punchline when it comes to wellness cuisine. While nutritionally-balanced, every meal served at Thailand’s leading wellness destination is characterised by an exquisite interplay of flavour, texture, and culinary mastery as Travel Daily Media’s own Gary Marshall will attest. As Gary puts it: “Dining at Chiva-Som was always a pleasant surprise. From breakfast to dinner, we were treated to sumptuous meals that I am sure were prepared with great care. It’s good to know that, based on the interviews we had with in-house wellness advisors at the beginning of the stay, the dishes served were appropriate to our nutritional needs. In my case, these were foods that would help recovery whilst boosting immunity and vitality.” Chiva-Som Hua Hin also offers three dietary options specifically developed for those in need of detoxification from stressful environs, improved digestive function, and safe weight management. These are: The Weight Management Diet is centred on guided portion control to ensure safer weight gain or loss without compromising an individual's nutritional requirements; The Gut-healing Diet, an option that centres on the use of fibre and probiotics to improve a guest’s gut biome, thereby improving their digestive function in a much safer way than a crash or fad diet; and The Cleansing Diet which is a multi-stage process that ensures the removal of toxins and pollutants from the body through clean eating and adjustments to one’s nutritional intake. From earth to table Farm-to-table cuisine has long been synonymous with the global sustainability movement, but it is also in sync with Chiva-Som Hua Hin’s long-time ethos on holistic wellness. Freshness is one of the key characteristics of the food served at the resort: after all, the quality of fresh produce deteriorates in the process of shipping it from farms to retailers, then again from the retailer to the kitchen. Here, through its own organic gardens, Chiva-Som staff raise the fruit, vegetables, and even herbs that will make their way into the hands of expert chefs who will transform them into wholesome, flavourful meals. Add the fact that these gardens at Chiva-Som Hua Hin are certified organic by IFOAM-Organics International, and guests are assured that nothing that would be detrimental to their well-being may be found in their food. Plus, seasonal eating makes the gustatory experience more exciting as menus shift in variety based on what produce is currently at its best in terms of freshness, ripeness, and quality. Two exceptional dining venues Likewise, guests are spoilt for choice as Chiva-Som Hua Hin is home to two establishments that offer extensive menus featuring a range of specialities that run from traditional treats to contemporary delights. At Taste of Siam, Chiva-Som changes the game when it comes to beachfront dining, as guests may opt to dine within the cool interiors or right outside to catch the fresh sea breezes. Breakfast here is served a la minute, prepared fresh in the open kitchen to one’s specifications. Taste of Siam is also an excellent place to have lunch or dinner as it offers a choice between health-smart but exceptionally delectable versions of Thai classics, as well as a number of international specialities. For those seeking a more refined dining experience, The Emerald Room opens its doors and offers a sumptuous pescatarian menu that highlights the freshly-caught bounty of the sea. More adventurous diners also make their way to The Emerald Room for its popular steamboat menu which is both a fun and healthy way to enjoy the best that nature has to offer in terms of fresh ingredients. Healthy eating beyond one’s stay The beauty of Chiva-Som Hua Hin is that it goes beyond the temporary respite that many wellness facilities offer and more towards ensuring that each guest comes away with a curated plan for an improved lifestyle. This extends to their diets as, thanks to wellness advisors who take a careful look at the physical condition of each guest, recommendations are made as what best to eat moving forward in order to stay well and healthy. Plus, for those who want to bring the flavours of Chiva-Som Hua Hin to their homes in Thailand and beyond, the resort’s online boutique offers a range of tasty treats from infused honey and lemongrass tea to virgin coconut oil and delectable biscuits to change up one’s breaktime fare. For more information regarding the services, amenities, and accommodations at Chiva-Som Hua Hin, be sure to visit their official website.
