Emirates introduces retrofitted A380s to Manchester and Milan
Emirates will be introducing its newest Airbus A380s fitted with its latest cabins, including Premium Economy, to Manchester and Milan. The latest retrofitted A380s will operate on EK017/018 to Manchester from 6 June, and on EK091/092 to Milan from 1 July. With the introduction of Emirates' newly retrofitted A380 to Manchester, the airline will expand its Premium Economy offering to nearly 5,000 weekly seats in and out of the UK from June. The enhanced service to Manchester complements the four daily retrofitted A380s currently serving the Dubai-London Heathrow route, the Emirates A350 operating to Edinburgh, and the soon-to-launch refurbished Boeing 777 scheduled to serve London Stansted from May. Milan will become Emirates’ second Italian gateway to offer the airline’s latest cabins and Premium Economy seats following the planned deployment of the airline’s A350 to Bologna later in June. These additions will expand Emirates' network of retrofitted A380 destinations to 19 global points, underscoring the airline's commitment to investing in the very best customer experience in the sky and adding more premium cabin options and choice across geographies. By July, travellers from Manchester and Milan will be able to experience Emirates' latest cabin features onboard the four-class A380 on the full journey to key points across Australasia and Asia including Sydney, Singapore, Osaka, Mumbai, Bangalore, and more. On a four-class Emirates A380, the Premium Economy cabin is located at the front of the main deck with 56 seats laid out in a 2-4-2 configuration. Each seat offers generous pitch and width for working and relaxing, as well as customised features like in-seat charging points and a side cocktail table. The onboard experience is rounded off with meticulously selected in-flight amenities, a curated menu, and extensive beverage options, including the Chandon Vintage Brut 2016, a global exclusive to Emirates Premium Economy passengers.
IndiGo launches non-stop flights to Manchester and Amsterdam
IndiGo marks a major milestone with its long- haul debut, announces non-stop flights to Manchester and Amsterdam. The service to Manchester will be the only direct route from India to the North of the UK. These two European destinations will be the latest additions to IndiGo's rapidly expanding global network, offering customers a seamless connectivity between India and Europe. With its signature blend of unparalleled network, affordable fares, hassle-free and on-time services, IndiGo is ready to revolutionize the long-haul travel experience, making international travel even more accessible. This development signals a significant step in IndiGo's journey to become a global player by 2030. IndiGo’s comprehensive network in domestic India and Asia will now be accessible to Manchester and Amsterdam, fulfilling a long-standing need for seamless connectivity between Europe and Asia by Indian operators. Over the past two years, IndiGo has been already building its brand presence in Europe through multiple codeshare partnerships connecting several European cities to India. Earlier this year, IndiGo entered into a damp lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways for a Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which was inducted into operations on March 1, 2025 and recently, the agreement was expanded to include the damp lease of three additional aircraft, scheduled to join the fleet towards the second half of this year. Collectively, these aircraft will enable IndiGo to make an early entry into the long-haul market and establish itself in Europe while the airline awaits the delivery of its Airbus A321 XLR and A350-900 aircraft from 2027 onwards. Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo said, "Today, we unlock a new and very exciting chapter in IndiGo's growth journey, connecting India to the heart of Europe. We're thrilled to announce our first-ever long-haul destinations - Manchester and Amsterdam. India has strong ties both with the United Kingdom and the Netherlands for business and tourism; and there is a large Indian diaspora who live in these countries. These new flights will benefit both our existing and potential customers who fly on these routes. These new IndiGo long-haul routes are steps towards inching closer to realising our shared vision to build India into a global aviation hub." Pieter Elbers further added, "Personally, I'm delighted to introduce IndiGo's services to the Netherlands, a country with which India, my present home, shares a rich history of trade, collaboration, and air connectivity. The United Kingdom is an important market for us, and we're excited to announce direct flights between India and Manchester.” The flights to Manchester (3x weekly) and Amsterdam (3x weekly) are expected to commence in July 2025, subject to completion of all operational preparedness and regulatory approvals. With the arrival of additional aircraft from Norse later this year the frequencies could further grow, and in parallel, IndiGo is evaluating multiple other important markets across Europe to further expand its long-haul footprint.
Manchester Airports Group chooses Cirium

MAG is the first Tier-1 airport group to use Cirium's EmeraldSky flight emissions and analytics to enhance operations and advance its sustainability objectives. Manchester Airports Group (MAG), the largest UK airport group which owns and operates Manchester, East Midlands and London Stansted airports, has entered into an agreement with aviation analytics firm, Cirium. MAG Chief Strategy Officer, Andrew Macmillan said: “Data plays a significant role in running an effective airport. We are always seeking new opportunities to better our understanding of how our airports are functioning, and where we can make improvements. Ensuring our airports are operating as sustainably as possible is also a priority for MAG. Any new insight as to how to cut our carbon emissions moves us closer to our goal of net zero aviation by 2050. “This new partnership will aid strategic planning across MAG, improve operational efficiency for our colleagues and airline partners, and deliver a better airport experience for our passengers.” The multi-year deal will see MAG utilise a range of Cirium’s analytics and solutions - including EmeraldSky CO2 flight emissions and on-time performance data, Diio market intelligence, and Fleets Analyzer, providing a holistic approach to enhance operational efficiency. The deal will enable the Group to make quicker and better-informed decisions using Cirium data and analytics, advancing strategic planning and post-operations analysis to ensure a better customer experience. In a first for a leading tier-one airport group, the new agreement includes Cirium’s EmeraldSky analytics, which delivers unparalleled flight, landing and take-off emissions data. This pioneering solution will provide MAG with the most accurate aircraft emissions data, allowing for monitoring, reporting and modulation of airport charges. The methodology behind this data has been vetted by experts from the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University. MAG will also leverage Cirium’s On-Time Performance data, considered the gold-standard in the industry. This data measures the performance and reliability of airports and the airlines which operate from them. This will enable MAG to benchmark its performance and showcase its performance against other airports in the UK and around the world. Additionally, the agreement includes Cirium’s Fleets Analyzer and Diio market intelligence tool. Fleets Analyzer will empower MAG’s strategy team to better understand the evolution of an airlines’ fleet, and the Diio market intelligence tool will help to develop more robust business cases to attract new routes to the Group’s airports, all while monitoring market changes and improving forecasting. Jeremy Bowen, Cirium CEO said, “We’re thrilled to be able to aid the biggest airport group in the UK to improve operations, and achieve sustainability goals through our range of Cirium solutions. Cirium’s comprehensive proposition stands out from our competitors by delivering value across multiple facets of MAG’s operations.”

Air Charter Service opens in Manchester to support growing client base
Aircraft charter specialist, Air Charter Service, has opened its third UK office, and its first in the north of England, in Manchester, as it focusses on expanding its client base further in the thriving technology and sports markets in the region. Justin Bowman, ACS’s Chief Executive, commented: “We have been looking into expanding our UK network for some time now and Manchester is the second most populous city in the UK, having overtaken Birmingham in recent years. It is a renowned technology and creative hub and is the fastest-growing city in the North of England, with the economy expected to grow at an annual rate of around 2.5% over the next two years, making it the third-fastest-growing city in the UK after London and Reading. “The north-west is also an extremely busy sporting region, especially in football, with six Premier League teams within a 40-mile radius of Manchester, as well as many other large lower league teams. Air Charter Service is already a leader in aircraft charters for the football industry, having arranged more than 1,500 contracts in the past five years, and this new office is perfectly situated to increase our business even further in the UK. Heading up the new office will be Alex Sadat-Shafai. Alex originally joined us 18 years ago, in our London headquarters, and has worked in both the Cargo and Group Charter teams since then and now specialises, in particular, in charters for football teams, executives, sponsors and fans.” Alex added: “I moved here more than a year ago, with the plan to open this office when we had the correct set up in place, which we now do. I’m excited to be moving into the new office and working with the new team, continuing to support our work in sports charters in the region.”

Finnair is celebrating 30 years of direct flights from Helsinki to Manchester, having launched the first service on 27 March, 1994. Finnair’s flights provide an important connection between the North of England and markets in Asia, allowing important business routes to thrive and giving holidaymakers access to far flung destinations. Since the first direct flight 30 years ago, Finnair has continued to strengthen and expand its Manchester-Helsinki service. It will increase capacity to 12 weekly flights this summer and to double daily flights by winter 2024. Finnair flies from its Helsinki hub to the most important trade cities in Asia such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo. From May, the carrier - which celebrated its centenary in 2023 - will resume flights to Nagoya in Japan with a twice-weekly service for the coming summer season. The airline also connects Manchester to its partner city Osaka, dubbed the ‘Manchester of the East’. The cities are partnering for the upcoming World Expo 2025 in Osaka, running from April to October next year. Anssi Partanen, Finnair Market Director Europe, said: “Finnair is proud to have flown direct to the vibrant city of Manchester since 1994 - and indirectly via London from the 1970s. “To celebrate this route now is even more timely as we are about to add capacity for the summer and to go back to double-daily from next winter. “In May, the resumption of flights to Nagoya will also allow for increased bilateral ties between Manchester and other Japanese cities alongside Osaka, where we will fly five times per week this coming summer season.” Finnair launched its direct Manchester-Helsinki flights in a year of cultural milestones. In 1994, Britpop band Oasis released their first album ‘Definitely Maybe’, the first episode of hit US TV show ‘Friends’ premiered and Manchester United won the FA cup. Partanen added: “We are pleased to celebrate such a milestone in Manchester, and we hope to serve Mancunians for many years to come!” Stephen Turner, Commercial Director at Manchester Airport, said: “We are proud to serve the North, connecting people with the places they want to fly to. Finnair is a highly valued partner, providing a link to the city of Helsinki and further afield.
