Etihad opens bookings for flights between Abu Dhabi and Medan

Medan, Indonesia   Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, is making flights to Medan, the gateway to Northern Sumatra, available for booking. The airline will start flights between Kualanamu International Airport (KNO), Medan and Zayed International Airport, Abu Dhabi (AUH) on 2 October 2025, operating on one of its new A321LR aircraft three times a week, timed to make the most of a leisure break. Medan, the capital of North Sumatra in Indonesia, is known for its vibrant culture, diverse culinary scene, and historical landmarks. The destination is just one of 14 already announced by Etihad this year, with more expected to come.

Qatar Airways touches down its inaugural flight in Medan, Indonesia

The award-winning airline continues its global expansion, introducing Medan as its third gateway in Indonesia. The national carrier of the State of Qatar will operate three weekly flights to Medan onboard its state-of-the-art Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Qatar Airways’ inaugural flight from Doha to Medan has touched down at Kualanamu International Airport on Monday, 15 January 2024, marking Medan the airline’s third destination in the Republic of Indonesia. The new direct service will complement the award-winning airline’s over 40 weekly flights to Jakarta and Bali. His Excellency the Minister of State President of Qatar National Library Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari represented the State of Qatar at the inaugural event, which was organized by the award-winning airline in collaboration with the ‘Years of Culture’ to mark the successful completion of the Qatar-Indonesia 2023 Year of Culture. Qatar-Indonesia sought to deepen the understanding of Qatar as a hub for arts and culture, tourism, education, and sports while celebrating the unique aspects of Indonesian culture and building sustainable partnerships through more than 50 programs across both countries. The new route to Medan solidifies the ties between both nations as the The Qatar-Indonesia 2023 Year of Culture comes to a close. During the inaugural event, passengers were greeted with cupcakes and music at the departure gate of Hamad International Airport (DOH). Onboard the inaugural flight, QR966 carried esteemed officials and were welcomed at Kualanamu International Airport by water cannon salute and high-ranking government officials and dignitaries.The official Gala dinner was also attended by officals and dignitaries from both countries, The Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Indonesia, H.E Ms. Fawziya Edrees Salman Al-Sulaiti, Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar, H.E Ridwan Hassan, Medan Mayor Mr. Muhammad Bobby Afif, and Secretary General for Years of Culture Steering Committee & Director of Executive committee, Ms. Sara AlMohannadi. The Minister of State, H.E. Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, said: “The success of the Qatar-Indonesia 2023 Year of Culture laid the groundwork for the lauch of the new route between Doha and Medan, which will strengthen the people-to-people connections that were established last year. "Immense potential" Located in the centre of Medan’s culinary and entertainment hub, Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan is just 15 minutes’ drive from various tourism spots such as Durian Ucok, Upside Down World Medan, Rahmat International Wildlife Museum & Gallery and various museums. “As the largest settlement outside of Java with its multiculturalism, Medan has immense potential. Etihad Airways and TAP Air Portugal Launch a Frequent Flyer Partnership Agreement

Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, and TAP Air Portugal, the national carrier of Portugal, have launched a frequent flyer partnership. The agreement enables members of both Etihad Guest and the TAP Miles&Go programme to earn and redeem their respective loyalty currency on either carrier. Etihad Guest members are able to redeem their miles on flights, worldwide hotel stays and holidays, or shop from a variety of products from the Etihad Guest Reward Shop. TAP Miles&Go member miles can be spent on flights and a range of additional offers such as TAP Store items. Mark Potter, Managing Director Etihad Guest, said: “We’re delighted to launch our frequent flyer partnership with TAP Air Portugal, offering our members even more ways to earn and redeem their miles across the airline’s network in the Americas, Europe and Africa. Etihad Airways is setting a new standard for single-aisle flying with the debut of its all-new Airbus A321LR, delivering wide-body comfort on short and medium-haul routes. On arrival, guests will be accompanied from the aircraft door to their chauffeur, with porter services taking care of the luggage. In Abu Dhabi, First guests will also soon benefit from complimentary Home Check-In and Land & Leave services, offering a baggage-free airport experience. At Zayed International Airport, First guests will be chauffeured to the aircraft door in a private limousine if the flight does not board directly from the terminal. “First isn’t just a seat - it’s an experience that starts the moment you choose to fly with us,” added Neves. “We’re bringing First to more destinations and elevating it at every touchpoint, combining the elegance of champagne and caviar with the convenience of modern luxury." Expanding Horizons Etihad’s first A321LR enters service on 1 August 2025, with ten aircraft joining the fleet this year. The aircraft will fly from Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport to destinations including Algiers, Athens, Bangkok, Chennai, Chiang Mai, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Kolkata, Krabi, Medan, Milan, Paris, Phnom Penh, Phuket, Riyadh, Tunis, and Zurich.
