Etihad opens bookings for flights between Abu Dhabi and Medan
Medan, Indonesia Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, is making flights to Medan, the gateway to Northern Sumatra, available for booking. The airline will start flights between Kualanamu International Airport (KNO), Medan and Zayed International Airport, Abu Dhabi (AUH) on 2 October 2025, operating on one of its new A321LR aircraft three times a week, timed to make the most of a leisure break. Medan, the capital of North Sumatra in Indonesia, is known for its vibrant culture, diverse culinary scene, and historical landmarks. The destination is just one of 14 already announced by Etihad this year, with more expected to come.

The award-winning airline continues its global expansion, introducing Medan as its third gateway in Indonesia. The national carrier of the State of Qatar will operate three weekly flights to Medan onboard its state-of-the-art Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Qatar Airways’ inaugural flight from Doha to Medan has touched down at Kualanamu International Airport on Monday, 15 January 2024, marking Medan the airline’s third destination in the Republic of Indonesia. The new direct service will complement the award-winning airline’s over 40 weekly flights to Jakarta and Bali. His Excellency the Minister of State President of Qatar National Library Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari represented the State of Qatar at the inaugural event, which was organized by the award-winning airline in collaboration with the ‘Years of Culture’ to mark the successful completion of the Qatar-Indonesia 2023 Year of Culture. Qatar-Indonesia sought to deepen the understanding of Qatar as a hub for arts and culture, tourism, education, and sports while celebrating the unique aspects of Indonesian culture and building sustainable partnerships through more than 50 programs across both countries. Archipelago International unveils Harper Hotel Medan
Indonesia’s hotel management group, Archipelago International, has officially opened its third hotel in Medan, this time under the Harper brand. Carrying out its mission to provide more favourable sanctuaries for all travellers in the city, Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan is designed with guests' comfort in mind, combining a strategic location with functionality, homely ambiance, and heartfelt service. "Immense potential" Located in the centre of Medan’s culinary and entertainment hub, Harper Wahid Hasyim Medan is just 15 minutes’ drive from various tourism spots such as Durian Ucok, Upside Down World Medan, Rahmat International Wildlife Museum & Gallery and various museums. “As the largest settlement outside of Java with its multiculturalism, Medan has immense potential. Etihad Airways launches First Flight from Abu Dhabi to Peshawar
Etihad Airways celebrated its inaugural flight to Peshawar (PEW), expanding its network in Pakistan and providing convenient access for travellers from Pakistan to the UAE, GCC and across Etihad’s wider network. The new direct service connects Abu Dhabi to Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a city renowned for its rich history, cultural heritage, and role as a gateway to trade and tourism. The route is expected to serve strong demand from the more than 1.5 million Pakistanis living and working in the UAE, while also enhancing two-way travel for trade, business and leisure. Peshawar becomes Etihad’s fourth nonstop destination in Pakistan, alongside Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, further strengthening the airline’s footprint in the region and offering guests more choice and flexibility across its growing network. “The launch of Peshawar reflects Etihad’s commitment to building a robust global network. Etihad Cargo Strengthens Connectivity
Etihad Cargo, the cargo and logistics arm of Etihad Airways, has announced an expanded winter schedule that will significantly increase belly-hold cargo capacity and enhance connectivity across its global network. The updated schedule introduces new routes to Hanoi, Hong Kong and Taipei, strengthening the carrier’s operations in Asia and providing greater access to some of the world’s fastest-growing cargo markets. To meet strong demand, Etihad Cargo will benefit from increased frequencies to a number of existing destinations, including Lisbon, Manchester, Warsaw, Atlanta and Bangkok, further reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s role as a leading global logistics hub. Between November 2025 and March 2026, Etihad Airways will progressively launch services to 16 new destinations, including Addis Ababa, Algiers, Almaty, Baku, Bucharest, Chiang Mai, Kazan, Krabi, Medan, Medina, Phnom Penh, Tashkent, Tbilisi and Yerevan. Stanislas Brun, Chief Cargo Officer, Etihad Cargo, said: “Our customers remain at the core of our strategy. This expanded winter schedule offers greater access to Etihad Cargo’s global network, providing more capacity, flexibility and reliable connections. Scoot expands network with new flights to Chiang Rai, Okinawa, and Tokyo
Singapore Airlines’ low-cost subsidiary Scoot announced the launch of new flight services to Chiang Rai in Thailand, and Okinawa and Tokyo (Haneda) in Japan earlier today, 15th August. These flights will commence progressively between December 2025 and March 2026, with all services transiting through Singapore. The new routes offer more options for holidaymakers planning their year-end and New Year travels, while providing a convenient stopover in Singapore en route to their final destination. According to Scoot CEO Leslie Thng: “We are thrilled to expand Scoot’s network in Asia with new routes to Chiang Rai, Okinawa and Tokyo (Haneda), offering our customers even more travel options. In addition, the upcoming increase in services to some cities will support stronger demand for air travel during the year-end and new year holiday periods. We will continue to look for opportunities to connect our customers to new travel experiences and memorable journeys with Scoot.” A wider network with a growing number of destinations Scoot’s latest expansion follows the announcement last month of new routes to Da Nang and Nha Trang in Vietnam, as well as Kota Bharu in Malaysia. These services will roll out progressively between October and November 2025 on the Embraer E190-E2 aircraft. Scoot also plans to introduce flights to Medan and Labuan Bajo in Indonesia during the Northern Winter 2025 season, with schedules and further details to be announced in due course. One-way economy class fares start from 6,930 THB to Okinawa and 7,005 THB to Tokyo (Haneda), inclusive of taxes. The new flights are now available for booking from today via Scoot’s website, mobile application, and progressively through other channels. With the launch of these new services, Scoot will operate 111 weekly flights to Thailand and 45 weekly flights to Japan. With the new additions to its network, the airline now offers routes to 76 destinations across 18 countries and territories in Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Europe. In time for holiday planning Aside from the new destinations, Scoot will be increasing flight frequencies within its network to support anticipated demand for air travel during the upcoming holiday periods. Southeast Asia In Southeast Asia, flights to Bangkok increased from 35 to 39 times weekly from August 2025. Chiang Mai will see progressive increase in frequencies to 14 times weekly by December 2025, up from seven times weekly; while Hat Yai will see increased frequencies from 10 to 11 times weekly from September 2025. On the other hand, Ipoh will also see increased services from 17 to 21 times weekly from November 2025. Northern Asia and Europe In North Asia, services to Tokyo (Narita) (via Taipei) will increase to 14 times weekly from October 2025. Services to Sapporo (Hokkaido) (via Taipei) will also increase to seven times weekly from December 2025. Correspondingly, services between Singapore and Taipei will gradually increase to 25 times from October 2025 and to 28 times from December 2025. Additionally, flights to Jeju will increase to seven times weekly from January 2026. In Europe, frequencies to Vienna will increase to four times weekly from March 2026.
Etihad Airways takes delivery of its first Airbus A321LR aircraft
Etihad Airways has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321LR (long range) following ceremony at the Airbus Finkenwerder site, marking a transformational milestone in the airline's fleet expansion strategy. The aircraft brings Etihad's signature widebody experience to short and medium-haul routes, with premium cabins typically found only on long-haul flights. This is the first of 30 A321LR aircraft scheduled to join Etihad's fleet. Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said: "Today marks an extraordinary moment for Etihad as we welcome an aircraft that changes everything we thought possible on a single-aisle plane. The A321LR enables us to serve more destinations with the same premium experience our guests expect across all cabins, perfectly embodying our commitment to delivering luxury at every altitude." Redefining Narrowbody Travel The A321LR features a three-cabin configuration, including Etihad's first-ever narrowbody First Suites - private, enclosed spaces with sliding doors, fully-flat beds, and bespoke design touches normally reserved for long-haul widebody operations. Each window-facing First Suite features a large 20-inch 4K screen, Bluetooth pairing, wireless charging, and additional space for a companion to sit. The aircraft's 14-seat Business cabin features widebody-style seats in a 1-1 herringbone layout, ensuring every passenger has direct aisle access and window views. Each Business seat includes a 17.3-inch 4K screen, Bluetooth headphone pairing and wireless charging. In Economy, 144 thoughtfully designed seats offer generous space and comfort, providing an elevated experience for single-aisle travel. Passengers enjoy 13.3-inch 4K touchscreen displays, USB charging, and Bluetooth connectivity. These seatback screens bring premium content back to narrowbody travel with over a thousand hours of movies, shows and games. In addition, the cabin features enlarged overhead bins providing significantly more luggage space than traditional narrowbody aircraft. This gate-to-gate connectivity, where permitted, ensures guests remain productive and entertained whether flying for business or leisure. Expanding Horizons The A321LR supports Etihad's extraordinary expansion momentum, with the airline having launched or announced 27 new routes in a single year as part of its ambitious growth strategy. The aircraft will enter commercial service on 1 August 2025, initially operating between Abu Dhabi and Phuket before serving destinations including Algiers, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Kolkata, Krabi, Krakow, Medan, Milan, Paris, Phnom Penh, Phuket, Tunis and Zurich. The A321LR delivery supports Etihad's Journey 2030 vision, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's position as a leading global aviation hub. Additional nine A321LR aircraft will be delivered throughout 2025, supporting Etihad's ambitious growth plans as the airline works towards carrying 38 million passengers annually by 2030.
Archipelago introduces electric vehicle charging to Indonesian hospitality scene
Indonesian hotel operator Archipelago is now the first major hotel group in the country to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across its entire hotel portfolio. This milestone symbolises a major step forward in sustainable hospitality and green mobility for Indonesia. This initiative began with the installation of charging stations at ten hotels, serving as a tangible contribution to environmental preservation and a clear symbol of automotive technological advancement in various regions of Indonesia. AirAsia’s RedRun makes its way to Penang
