Singapore Airlines (SIA) is set to enhance its in-flight Wi-Fi service by partnering with Starlink, a satellite broadband provider. Starting in the first quarter of 2027, SIA will progressively introduce Starlink's low Earth orbit satellite-based broadband service on its Airbus A350-900 long-haul, A350-900 ultra-long-range, and A380 aircraft, with full implementation expected by the end of 2029.
Starlink, with over 10,000 satellites in orbit, will provide multi-gigabit connectivity using its Aero Terminal, supporting up to 1 Gbps per antenna. This upgrade promises faster and smoother connectivity for all cabin classes, enabling activities such as video streaming, social media sharing, gaming, and large file transfers from take-off to landing.
SIA's Senior Vice President of Customer Experience, Yeoh Phee Teik, emphasised the importance of connectivity in modern travel, stating, "Fast, seamless connectivity is, today, an essential part of the travel experience. Starlink will take this to the next level by delivering next-generation high-speed connectivity."
Jason Fritch, Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales at SpaceX, expressed excitement about the collaboration, noting that Starlink aims to redefine connectivity for both leisure and business travellers.
The initiative will maintain SIA's offering of unlimited complimentary Wi-Fi for customers in Suites, First Class, Business Class, and for KrisFlyer members in Premium Economy and Economy Class on Starlink-enabled aircraft. This move positions SIA to continue leading in providing comprehensive in-flight connectivity
