Southwest Airlines, the world’s fourth largest carrier in terms of passenger traffic, has unveiled a brand new livery.
The company has retained the bright and colourful look of its aircraft, with yellow and red stripes on a blue background, while the name written along the fuselage now has a bold new font.
A new ‘heart’ logo is said to showcase the “strength of the nearly 46,000 employees… whose dedication can be felt by every customer”.
“Our collective heartbeat is stronger and healthier than ever, and that’s because of the warmth, the compassion, and the smiles of our people,” said Gary Kelly, Southwest’s chairman, president & CEO. “The heart emblazoned on our aircraft, and within our new look, symbolises our commitment that we’ll remain true to our core values as we set our sights on the future.”
The rebranding comes in a big year for Southwest, as it moves into the international market for the first time, with the launch of several new destinations in the Caribbean, as well as expanding its footprint in major domestic markets like New York City and Washington DC.
“With all these exciting changes happening, we thought it was time for a new visual expression of our brand – one that marries our past to our present and sets the course for where we’re headed in the future,” Kelly said.
Southwest carried more than 133 million passengers in 2013 – more than twice as many as Emirates.
