Students lead climate action at NLCS Singapore’s Earth Week

Students at North London Collegiate School (NLCS) Singapore are taking the lead in climate action during the school's annual Earth Week, held from 20 April to 24 April 2026. The event aims to foster environmental awareness and responsibility among students through a series of workshops and a Service and Sustainability Summit.

The weeklong programme includes 26 workshops covering topics such as waste management, water sustainability, and urban farming. These sessions are led by external partners, teachers, and students, providing hands-on learning experiences. Notable participants include environmental organisations like Waterways Watch Society of Singapore and Plastify.

A highlight of the event is a keynote presentation by Malaysian artists Lee Oscar and Celine Tan from CO2Karbondioxida. They will guide students in creating the Singapore skyline using fabrics from preloved clothing, merging creativity with sustainability.

Sophie Davies, Vice Principal of Safeguarding and Inclusion at NLCS Singapore, emphasised the importance of engaging students with sustainability issues early. "Sustainability is not something students will only encounter in the future; it is already shaping the world they are growing into," she said.

The summit serves as a platform for students to connect with real-world perspectives on climate action. Agathe Avila, Environment and Sustainability Coordinator at NLCS Singapore, noted, "Programmes like Earth Week aim to make environmental challenges tangible and relatable, ensuring every student feels they have a role to play."

As Singapore advances its sustainability agenda, initiatives like Earth Week underscore the role of education in nurturing responsible global citizens
