The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has successfully hosted the Middle East and Africa Trade Meet 2026 (MTM) in Bangkok, aiming to bolster Thailand's tourism connections with these regions. Held at the Siam Kempinski Hotel on 16 June, the event was part of a strategic initiative to expand trade networks and stimulate quality travel to Thailand from the Middle East and Africa.
Santi Sawangcharoen, TAT Executive Director for the Americas, Middle East, and Africa Region, highlighted the significance of MTM 2026 as a platform to connect high-potential buyers with Thailand's tourism offerings. "By bringing Middle Eastern and African travel partners into direct discussion with Thai operators, TAT aims to convert market potential into stronger business opportunities," he stated.
The event saw participation from 39 travel companies from countries including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa. These companies engaged in market briefings, B2B appointments, and networking sessions with Thai tourism suppliers. This initiative followed the Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) 2026 in Pattaya, which ran from 10 to 12 June, where 44 travel companies were introduced to Thailand's tourism potential.
The Middle East and Africa markets are crucial for Thailand's tourism, with over one million visitors from these regions in 2025, marking a 3% increase from the previous year. TAT's focus for Middle Eastern travellers includes wellness and luxury experiences, whilst African travellers are drawn to beach holidays and adventure tourism. The agency is also promoting Thailand as a year-round destination, aligning with regional travel patterns and school holidays.
TAT plans to continue collaborating with airlines, travel agents, and tour operators to enhance market access and develop attractive travel packages, ensuring Thailand remains a competitive destination for international travellers
