China’s appeal has been particularly strong for group and family travel this year

Fresh insights from Traveloka reveal a marked preference among Singaporeans for China as their top travel destination, particularly now as the June holidays season is coming up.

In 2025, China surpassed Japan as Singaporeans’ travel destination of choice and the trend continues this year as travellers head beyond familiar megacities to explore inland provinces on longer group and family holidays.

According to Traveloka vice-president of commercial Charles Wong: “China offers an unmatched diversity of landscapes, flavours and experiences within a destination that Singaporeans are becoming increasingly familiar with. Alongside the growing confidence and familiarity with China, we are seeing greater interest in the interior provinces, especially for group and family holidays that combine culture, nature and value.”

For a second consecutive year, China continues to be Singaporeans’ top mid- to long-haul destination pick for the June school holidays, recording 40 percent more bookings than Japan and 130 percent more bookings than South Korea on Traveloka, and coming in third behind Indonesia and Malaysia for total bookings worldwide.

Longer stays

Singaporeans are also staying longer and travelling further afield within China.

Popular cities such as Hangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou have seen average lengths of stay increase to three to five nights in March and April, compared to just one to three nights earlier in the year.

This shift comes as travellers look for alternatives to long-haul travel amid uncertain travel conditions, turning to China as the number one choice for longer holidays outside Southeast Asia.

China’s appeal has been particularly strong for group and family travel this year, with growing interest in the northern and western provinces that offer diverse landscapes, culture and cuisine.

Urumqi has seen 40 percent year-on-year growth, attracting families drawn to Xinjiang’s vast scenery and Central Asian influences.

Harbin recorded 16 percent year-on-year growth over the winter season, driven by Singaporeans travelling to experience its iconic Ice and Snow Festival.

Kunming has also emerged as a top-three choice among family and group travellers, serving as the gateway to the popular Yunnan itinerary of Kunming, Lijiang, Dali, and Shangri-La.
