SIAN, a modular architecture company based in Mexico, has unveiled an innovative hospitality model that enables hotels to expand their accommodation offerings within three to five months. This approach significantly reduces the typical one to two-year timeline required for conventional construction projects. The first unit, SIAN Yáax, is operational in Isla Mujeres, with additional units planned for Tulum.
The model involves off-site manufacturing, where construction occurs in a controlled factory environment before the units are transported and assembled at their destination. This method allows for rapid deployment, with manufacturing taking 30 to 60 days, transportation around 30 days, and on-site installation approximately four weeks. If a model is pre-manufactured, the entire process can be completed in two to three months.
SIAN's approach addresses the challenge of expanding hotel inventory without lengthy construction projects or significant disruption to existing operations. The units are anchored using foundation screws instead of concrete, allowing for installation without heavy machinery. This means hotels can add rooms or wellness spaces whilst remaining operational.
Luis Gutiérrez Ureña, CEO and Co-founder of SIAN, stated, “Hotels need more flexibility in how they grow. Expanding a property shouldn’t necessarily mean committing to years of construction or disrupting operations.”
The model also minimises environmental impact. SIAN Yáax was built without concrete foundations, using removable screws to preserve the natural terrain. The structures use FSC-certified wood, and components are manufactured with precision to reduce waste.
SIAN is exploring expansion into Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, and the US, with projects under discussion in Mexico and Spain. The company aims to offer a faster, more adaptable approach to hotel expansion, allowing operators to add inventory as demand grows whilst reducing on-site disruption.
