Dnata upgrades accessibility services at Dubai airport

Dnata has announced significant enhancements to its accessibility services at Dubai International Airport (DXB), aiming to improve the travel experience for customers with diverse accessibility needs. The upgrades include new ambulifts, customised mobility buggies, and battery-operated wheelchairs, alongside trials of autonomous wheelchair technology.

The initiative, showcased at the AccessAbilities Expo 2026, aligns with Dubai's vision of inclusivity, as highlighted by Jaffar Dawood, Divisional Senior Vice President for UAE Airport Operations at dnata. "At dnata, we are supporting that vision by investing in the people, equipment, and technology that make airport journeys more accessible," Dawood stated.

The modernised ambulifts feature enhanced safety and comfort, whilst the 24 new accessibility buggies cater to a broader range of needs. Additionally, dnata has introduced stackable battery-operated wheelchairs to optimise space and facilitate smoother transfers.

Dnata assists approximately 2 million customers annually at DXB requiring accessibility support. To further enhance service, over 3,500 dnata team members have completed hidden disability training, and the company has introduced Signature Service Style training to improve customer care.

The Accessible Travel department, formerly known as Special Handling, reflects dnata's commitment to equitable travel. This rebranding is part of a broader programme to ensure barrier-free travel, supported by collaborations with airlines, service providers, and government stakeholders through the oneDXB community.
