SIA and Air India expand code-share flights

Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Air India have announced an expansion of their code-share flights and frequent-flyer benefits, effective from 15 October. This development allows passengers to book standalone flights operated by either airline, enhancing flexibility for travellers with 126 weekly flights between Singapore and eight Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.

Previously, passengers booking an Air India-operated code-share flight through SIA were required to include an SIA-operated flight, and vice versa. This requirement will be removed, enabling more direct booking options. The initiative is part of the first phase of a commercial pact signed in January, aimed at strengthening the partnership between the two carriers.

SIA's chief commercial officer, Lee Lik Hsin, highlighted the strong demand for travel between Singapore and India, stating that the partnership will offer "greater choice and convenience" to customers, along with enhanced benefits for frequent-flyer members. The airlines currently have a code-share agreement covering 77 destinations across 27 countries.

From the second quarter of 2027, members of both airlines' frequent-flyer programmes will enjoy enhanced reciprocal benefits on eligible routes. Top-tier members, such as Maharaja Club Platinum and KrisFlyer PPS Club, will receive priority check-in and boarding privileges. Additionally, Maharaja Club Silver and KrisFlyer Elite Silver members will benefit from extra baggage allowances and priority boarding.

SIA and Air India are also working on further initiatives to improve customer experience, including better schedule connectivity, enhanced corporate offerings, and streamlined travel processes.
