United Airlines has announced an expansion of its meal preorder programme, now available on shorter flights across North America and the Caribbean. This change lowers the threshold for fresh food preorders in United Economy from over 1,190 miles to over 900 miles, adding 420 more flights per day and benefiting up to 65,000 additional customers daily.
The expanded service includes hub-to-hub routes such as Chicago to Houston, Denver to San Francisco, and Houston to Washington, D.C. Passengers can choose from a rotating menu of fresh sandwiches, burritos, burgers, pasta, and breakfast options via the airline's website or mobile app. Preorders can be made from five days up to 24 hours before departure.
David Kinzelman, United's Chief Customer Officer, stated, "We want our customers to have more of what they value when they fly – more choice, more convenience and a better experience onboard." This initiative is part of United's broader investment strategy to enhance passenger experience, which includes fast, free Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus members, live sports streaming, and extensive entertainment options.
United's ongoing improvements also feature the installation of seatback screens across its fleet, with plans to equip up to 1,000 aircraft by the end of 2027. Additionally, the airline will refresh its snackboxes and introduce new seasonal food and beverage offerings starting 1 November.
