United Airlines has become the first airline to let passengers stream their personal Spotify accounts directly on seatback screens. The feature follows a collaboration with Starlink and Spotify.
Passengers can scan a QR code to securely access their Spotify accounts. They can then enjoy more than 100 million tracks, along with millions of podcasts and videos. They can also pick up where they left off before boarding.
The service uses Starlink Wi-Fi and will expand across half of United's fleet by next spring. The airline aims to equip its fleet with 219,000 seatback screens by the end of 2027.
Andrew Nocella, Chief Commercial Officer at United Airlines, said: "Our customers are used to streaming entertainment that's tailored to them, and that level of personalisation shouldn't stop when they board one of our aeroplanes."
Ian Geller, VP of Business Development at Spotify, described the integration as a major milestone. He said it creates a new way for passengers to enjoy Spotify during flights.
United is also expanding its inflight entertainment offering. Passengers can access more than 2,500 hours of premium content from platforms including Apple TV and HBO Max.
Meanwhile, Starlink Wi-Fi is now available on more than half of United's daily flights. The airline aims to provide connectivity across its entire fleet by the end of 2027.
