Singapore's Changi Airport

Singapore's Changi Airport

Passenger traffic at Singapore’s Changi Airport continued to climb in the first half of 2017, as the hub registered more than 30 million passengers.

The total of 30.4m travellers arriving at, departing from or transiting through Changi in the January-June period marked a 5.7% increase compared to the first half of 2016.

This growth was primarily driven by intra-regional traffic, with routes to and from destinations in Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and South Asia all experiencing strong growth.

Aircraft movements increased 3.0% to 183,230 take-offs and landings, and the average number of passengers per flight was just under 166. An aircraft now takes off or lands at Changi roughly once every 90 seconds.

Changi Airport is on track to set a new record in terms of annual passenger traffic this year, potentially exceeding the 60m mark for the first time in history. Last year, Changi handled 58.7m passengers, making it the busiest airport in Southeast Asia and the sixth busiest in Asia Pacific.
