Thailand has achieved a significant milestone by welcoming over 1 million visitors from the United Kingdom for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.
This achievement, marked on 17 December, highlights the recovery and momentum of the UK market, with expectations to reach 1.1 million arrivals by the end of 2025, generating over 80 billion Baht ($2 billion) in tourism revenue.
The milestone was celebrated at Suvarnabhumi Airport with the arrival of Thai Airways flight TG911; and the one millionth UK visitor was greeted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor, Thapanee Kiatphaibool, and received special gifts, including return air tickets and luxury accommodation.
Kiatphaibool stated, “Reaching one million visitors from the United Kingdom is a historic milestone for Thailand and a powerful sign of the strength and resilience of our long-standing relationship with the UK market.”
Strategy pays off
Air connectivity has been a crucial factor, with approximately 35 weekly flights between the UK and Thailand, providing over 11,100 seats per week during the winter season.
The average load factor in December 2025 was around 90 percent, indicating strong demand.
TAT's strategy has focused on promoting off-peak travel and regional dispersal, showcasing lesser-known destinations and unique local experiences.
This approach has supported local businesses and provided UK operators with new products to inspire travellers.
Looking ahead, TAT plans to continue its marketing efforts with UK tour operators and airlines, promoting diverse experiences and encouraging longer stays.
British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are also set to expand their services, further enhancing access to Thailand. With these developments, Thailand aims to sustain its success into 2026 and beyond.
