Archipelago extends assistance to Sumatra flood victims

Recent natural disasters have caused extensive damage to residential areas, particularly due to flooding across the island of Sumatra

As part of its commitment to supporting communities in need, Archipelago, Southeast Asia’s largest hotel management company, distributed IDR 360 million worth of emergency relief aid to disaster-affected communities in Sumatra.

The humanitarian assistance consisted of essential supplies and emergency equipment, including canned food, instant noodles, bottled drinking water, packaged milk, linens, towels, hygiene supplies, pillows, hand sanitizer, baby diapers, sanitary products, water pumps, and other critical necessities.

To date, the floods affected 52 regencies and cities, impacting more than 150,000 homes and approximately 800,000 people.

The disasters across the three provinces also damaged public infrastructure, including bridges, inter-provincial roads, and hospitals, and resulted in shortages of food and clothing for affected communities.

According to Archipelago chief executive John Flood: “We are deeply concerned about the impact of the disaster experienced by the people of Sumatra. Archipelago strives to always be present and provide support for those who are facing difficult times. We hope this aid can ease the burden on the victims and support the acceleration of recovery in the affected regions. We hope that the situation can quickly improve so that the community can return to leading normal lives.”

The distribution of emergency relief assistance was supported by the Sea Transportation Command of the Indonesian Navy (KOLINLAMIL) through its sea transportation fleet based at Tanjung Priok Port.

This facilitated the shipment of aid to Sumatra, followed by further distribution to affected areas by local task forces.

In the process of transferring and relocating the relief logistics, Archipelago was also supported by Asian Tigers Group, an international relocation services provider.

This humanitarian initiative further involved contributions from various partners through donations of essential goods, including the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, Surya Baru Mandiri, Cynthia Rama Jaya, PT Ara Savis Sejahtera (Savis), Michico, Yulia Mega Hasta, Microclean, King Jaya, Zees, Selena Linen, I Clean, PT Architama Catu Nusa, STC Indonesia, Eco Care, and Lady Americana.

In addition, Archipelago hotel units in North Sumatra actively supported the distribution of aid to affected communities as well as impacted employees.

Archipelago hopes that this collaboration among the company, its hotel units, and its partners can provide a positive impact on the people of Sumatra who are striving to restore their living conditions.

Through continuous support, Archipelago is committed to remaining actively involved in assisting communities in various regions that are in need.
