A year after SITA and Apple joined forces, the integration of Apple's AirTag and Find My Share Item Location with SITA's WorldTracer system has significantly improved baggage operations for airlines and airports. This collaboration has led to a 90% reduction in permanently lost luggage, as travellers can now share their bag's location with airlines during peak travel periods.

The partnership allows passengers using an Apple AirTag or Find My network accessory to securely share their bag's location with airlines via SITA WorldTracer. This direct link between consumer technology and airline recovery systems has proven transformative, with a 26% reduction in recovery time for delayed bags. Nicole Hogg, Portfolio Director, Baggage at SITA, stated, "When consumer technology and aviation infrastructure are connected in the right way, the results can be transformative."

Currently, 29 airlines have adopted the Apple Find My integration, with more expected to follow. The collaboration supports faster decision-making and fewer unresolved cases, especially during busy holiday seasons when baggage systems face additional pressure. The latest SITA Baggage IT Insights report highlights that global mishandling rates remain low, with 66% of mishandled bags reunited with owners within 48 hours.

As global travel continues to rise, the SITA and Apple collaboration demonstrates how meaningful partnerships can deliver scalable results, benefiting airlines, passengers, and the broader aviation ecosystem. WorldTracer is now deployed at over 2,800 airports and used by more than 500 airlines worldwide, enhancing the reliability of baggage experiences.
