Thailand confirms Songkran festival 2026 nationwide

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced that the Songkran Festival 2026 will take place across all regions of Thailand, inviting global visitors to partake in the vibrant New Year celebrations. The festival, which is recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, will feature traditional water festivities, cultural rituals, and community events from 9 to 15 April. The Thai government is ensuring that all services and infrastructure are fully operational for the holiday period.

TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool stated, “We are aware that global events have created uncertainty for travellers. We want to be clear: Songkran 2026 will take place as planned across every region of Thailand. The spirit of this festival and Thailand’s welcome remains unchanged.”

In Bangkok, the festivities will include the Maha Songkran World Event at Benjakitti Park, riverside celebrations at ICONSIAM and Asiatique, and music festivals such as S2O and Siam Songkran. Silom and Siam Square will transform into major water celebration zones. Each region of Thailand will offer its unique take on Songkran, with the central region featuring temple-based celebrations and the signature elephant water-splashing event. The North will host extended ceremonies rooted in local tradition, whilst the South will offer beachside celebrations.

Visitors are encouraged to plan their travel in advance, and TAT will provide updates as necessary. The festival underscores Thailand’s values of family, respect, and renewal, blending cultural authenticity with modern experiences
