Emirates SkyCargo launches Toronto freighter service

Emirates SkyCargo has introduced a weekly freighter service to Toronto Pearson Airport, enhancing air cargo links between Canada and the UAE. This new service aims to bolster Canadian exports, which have seen a 24% increase to the UAE between 2023 and 2024, according to Badr Abbas, Emirates SkyCargo's Divisional Senior Vice President. The service provides an additional 100 tonnes of export capacity weekly, supplementing the existing belly hold cargo on Emirates passenger flights.

The freighter service, which includes a stop in Amsterdam, also strengthens connectivity between Canada and the EU. Kurush Minocher, Chief Commercial Officer at Toronto Pearson, stated, "This new service provides shippers with direct, reliable access to one of the world's most expansive cargo networks."

The flight, EK9943, departs Dubai World Central on Fridays, arriving in Amsterdam before continuing to Toronto. The return flight, EK9944, leaves Toronto on Fridays, reaching Dubai on Saturdays. This service is expected to boost exports of pharmaceuticals, fresh produce, electronics, and other high-value goods from Canada.

Emirates SkyCargo, which has been facilitating trade to and from Canada since 2007, has transported over 11,000 tonnes of export cargo from Canada since 2023. The new freighter service underscores Emirates' commitment to the Canadian market, complementing its existing passenger flights to Toronto and Montreal. The airline operates a global network with over 270 aircraft, including dedicated freighters, and plans to expand its fleet with additional Boeing 777 freighters in 2026
