United Airlines has announced a series of initiatives to assist Spirit Airlines customers and employees affected by recent flight cancellations. For the next two weeks, passengers with cancelled Spirit flights can access price-capped, one-way tickets through United's website. These special fares are available from cities previously served by Spirit, such as Atlanta, Chicago, and Miami, with most tickets capped at $199 and longer flights at $299.
To access these fares, passengers need to provide their Spirit confirmation number, proof of purchase for travel between 2 May and 16 May, and a United MileagePlus number. Non-members can sign up for MileagePlus at no cost.
In addition to customer support, United is extending pass travel benefits to Spirit employees for two weeks, allowing them to book travel through the ID90 portal. Spirit employees are also encouraged to apply for open positions at United, where their applications will receive priority consideration.
David Kinzelman, United's Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer, highlighted the benefits of flying with United, including access to their mobile app, updated planes with seatback screens, and extensive flight options across the Atlantic and Pacific. "I think you'll love what comes with your ticket on the world's largest airline," Kinzelman stated, emphasising United's commitment to providing reliable service.
These measures aim to ease the travel disruptions faced by Spirit Airlines passengers and staff, offering them alternative travel options and employment opportunities during this challenging period
