China and Brunei have celebrated 35 years of diplomatic relations with a series of cultural exchange events, highlighting their deepening friendship. Organised by the China Intercontinental Communication Centre (CICC), these events included performances by artists with disabilities and a food festival showcasing traditional Chinese cuisine.

On 18 and 19 September, the Jerudong International School theatre hosted "My Dream" performances, featuring 45 members of the China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe alongside 20 local performers with disabilities. The event, attended by over 1,100 people, was supported by the Chinese Embassy in Brunei, Brunei's Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and the Brunei-China Friendship Association. Chinese Ambassador Chen Shaochun emphasised the importance of cultural exchanges in fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.

The Brunei China Food Festival 2026, launched on 20 September at Emperor's Court Restaurant, showcased the culinary expertise of master chefs from Donglaishun and Quanjude. These chefs demonstrated traditional techniques, such as hand-slicing lamb and roasting ducks, highlighting Beijing's halal cuisine. Ambassador Chen described food as a universal language, inviting guests to explore China's rich culinary heritage.

Additionally, CICC and the Brunei-China Friendship Association signed a framework agreement to establish a long-term strategic partnership. This agreement aims to enhance cultural exchanges, youth programmes, and people-to-people interactions across ASEAN. Huang Jing, Director of CICC's Cultural Exchange Centre, expressed commitment to fostering closer ties between the people of China and Brunei through community-rooted cultural initiatives.
