Berlin has been named the world's best luxury opera destination for 2026, according to new research by Pettitts Travel. The German capital outshines Paris and London, thanks to its 98 opera performances this year, seven opera venues, and a cultural offering that boasts an average Google rating of 4.7 out of 5.

Berlin's three iconic opera houses—Deutsche Oper, Komische Oper, and Staatsoper Unter den Linden—are highlighted as key attractions. The city offers a diverse range of productions, from classics like "La bohème" to new works such as Matthias Pintscher’s "The Cold Heart."

Paris ranks second, with 73 performances scheduled for 2026 and a score of 8.8 out of 10. The city is renowned for its luxury dining and accommodation, featuring 519 Michelin-starred restaurants and 150 Michelin hotels. London completes the top three with a score of 8.7, offering 56 performances and nine opera venues, including The Royal Opera House and Opera Holland Park.

David Pettitt, Head of Product at Pettitts Travel, noted, “The appeal of cities like Berlin, Paris, and London lies not only in their rankings but in the opportunity to experience world-class productions within some of the world’s most iconic opera houses.”

The study underscores a resurgence in opera's popularity, with increased interest from younger audiences and a notable rise in bookings for opera holidays. As opera continues to gain traction, these cities are set to remain prime destinations for both new and seasoned enthusiasts
