DiscoverCars.com has identified Portugal as the most affordable destination for a family camping holiday in Europe this summer. The car rental comparison site analysed popular campsites and car hire costs across several countries to determine the best value for a week-long getaway from 27 July to 2 August.

Portugal emerged as the top choice, with a combined cost of $383 (€363) for campsite fees and car rental. The country boasted the lowest car hire costs at $151 (€143) and campsite fees at $233 (€220). Spain followed closely, with a total cost of $420 (€398), whilst Austria ranked third at $470 (€445).

The UK also made the list, coming in fourth with a total cost of $533 (€504). Despite having the second-highest campsite fees at $288 (€272), the UK's car rental costs were the second most affordable at $246 (€232). Sweden rounded out the top five with a total cost of $584 (€552).

Conversely, the Netherlands was found to be the most expensive, with a total cost of $1,080 (€1,021). Switzerland, Norway, Finland, and France also featured among the priciest destinations.
