DiscoverCars.com, a car rental comparison and booking website, has identified Portugal as the most affordable destination for a family camping holiday in Europe this summer. The study, which analysed costs for a week-long stay at popular campsites combined with car rental rates, highlights Portugal's appeal for budget-conscious travellers.
Portugal emerged as the top choice with a total cost of $383 (€363), comprising $232 (€220) for campsite fees and $151 (€143) for car hire. Spain follows closely, with a combined cost of $420 (€398), whilst Austria takes third place at $470 (€445). The UK and Sweden round out the top five, with costs of $532 (€504) and $583 (€552), respectively.
The research also identified the most expensive destinations, with the Netherlands leading at $1,080 (€1,021), followed by Switzerland ($1,013 (€958)) and Norway ($820 (€776)). Finland and France complete the list with costs of $673 (€637) and $664 (€629), respectively.
