Philippine Airlines (PAL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus to acquire nine additional A350-1000 aircraft, with purchase rights for five more. This move, announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, aims to enhance PAL's long-haul capabilities and modernise its fleet. The deal was formalised by PAL Holdings President Lucio C. Tan III, Philippine Airlines President Richard Nuttall, and Airbus executives.

The A350-1000 will become PAL's flagship for long-haul routes, offering exceptional range, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort. Currently, PAL operates two A350-1000s on routes such as Manila to New York and Toronto. Seven more aircraft from a previous order are expected by 2028. "The A350-1000 will continue to define the future of our international operations," said Tan.

Configured in a three-class layout, the A350-1000 provides a premium onboard experience with Business Class suites, a dedicated Premium Economy cabin, and enhanced Economy Class. The aircraft's advanced materials and aerodynamics contribute to reduced fuel consumption and carbon emissions, aligning with PAL's sustainability objectives.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry of Airbus highlighted the significance of the agreement, stating, "This agreement marks an important milestone in deepening our partnership with Philippine Airlines." The additional purchase rights offer PAL flexibility for future market opportunities. Deliveries from this new order are expected between 2034 and 2036
