Ontario Airport sees record passenger numbers in H1 2026

Ontario International Airport (ONT) has achieved a significant milestone, welcoming over 3.4 million passengers in the first half of 2026. This marks a nearly 2% increase from the previous year and represents the highest half-year total since the airport returned to local ownership a decade ago. The airport also processed more than 428,000 tonnes of air cargo, reflecting a 7.6% rise from 2025.

Alan Wapner, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, attributed this success to the "exceptional customer service and operational excellence" provided by ONT. The airport's strategic location and world-class facilities have made it a key player in the competitive Southern California market.

The midyear figures include over 346,000 international travellers, a substantial 45.7% increase from 2025. In June alone, the airport handled 65,929 passengers, with Southwest Airlines leading the passenger share at 36.5%, followed by American Airlines and Alaska Airlines.

On the cargo front, ONT's role as a global supply chain hub was reinforced with a year-to-date increase of nearly 8%, including over 71,000 tonnes in June. Freight tonnage rose by 11.2% compared to the previous year, whilst mail tonnage saw a slight decrease.

Ranked as the second most popular mid-sized airport by JD Power, ONT serves over 7 million passengers annually, offering nonstop services to major destinations across the US, Mexico, Central America, and Taiwan
