Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has successfully completed its mandatory drug screening for all operationally active Malaysia Airlines pilots, with all tests returning negative results. This initiative, completed by 15 August 2026, is part of MAG's ongoing efforts to enhance safety and fitness-for-duty measures across its operations.

Following this milestone, MAG will extend the screening programme to approximately 2,840 Malaysia Airlines cabin crew, commencing on 18 August 2026 and aiming for completion by 3 September 2026. The screening is also underway for Firefly, a sister airline, covering both pilots and cabin crew. As of 15 August 2026, more than half of Firefly's 158 pilots and 163 cabin crew have been screened, with all results negative. Firefly is expected to complete its screenings by 25 August 2026, ahead of the 5 September 2026 deadline set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.

Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, President and Group CEO of MAG, stated, “The completion of this first phase is an important milestone in the measures we committed to implementing, but work does not stop here. We are moving ahead with screening across other operational groups to ensure the same rigorous standards are applied consistently across our airlines.”

MAG will continue its random testing programme, led by its Safety and Health team, in collaboration with authorities. These measures complement MAG's existing fitness-for-duty framework, which includes pre-employment screening, medical certification, and periodic alcohol and drug testing. The group remains committed to maintaining high safety standards and safeguarding the well-being of its employees and passengers
