The World Aviation Festival (WAF) 2026, set to take place in Lisbon from 13-15 October, will introduce a new Airport & Airline Collaboration Track. This initiative aims to foster joint operational resilience and enhance passenger travel experiences by bringing together airports, airlines, border management, ground handlers, and technology providers.
Daniel Boyle, General Manager of Transport at Terrapinn, the event organiser, emphasised the need for collaboration. "Airlines and airports are facing many of the same pressures, but too often they are still trying to solve them in isolation," he stated. The forum will address legacy systems and entrenched practices, aiming for improved operations and commercial outcomes.
Key sessions include a panel on digital identity infrastructure, featuring experts like Maurice Jenkins from Miami International Airport and Amin Lalani from Delta Air Lines. They will discuss standards such as IATA One ID and ICAO Digital Travel Credentials, exploring the possibility of passport-free travel by 2030.
Another session will focus on building joint operational resilience, with insights from Istvan Szabo of Berlin Brandenburg Airport and Chamith Seneviratne of Air Canada. Additionally, Girish Nair, COO at Bangalore International Airport, will participate in a fireside chat on aligning operations and commercial outcomes.
As the world's largest aviation technology event, WAF 2026 will host over 4,500 attendees and 600 speakers, shaping the future of aviation
