Mercure Nadi

Ecotourism Australia has expanded its certification programme to Fiji, with Novotel Suva Lami Bay, Mercure Nadi, and Novotel Nadi becoming the first certified operators in the region. This achievement underscores Accor's dedication to sustainability and Ecotourism Australia's growing influence in the Pacific. The certifications recognise the hotels' commitment to sustainable tourism practices and provide a framework for enhancing environmental and operational performance.

Elissa Keenan, CEO of Ecotourism Australia, expressed enthusiasm for the certifications, stating, “We are delighted to certify not one, but three Accor properties as we continue to grow our footprint across the Pacific and support tourism businesses that are committed to credible, measurable sustainability.” Adrian Williams, Chief Operating Officer of Accor Pacific, highlighted the importance of protecting Fiji's unique environment, adding, “We’re proud that Novotel Suva Lami Bay, Mercure Nadi and Novotel Nadi have all achieved Ecotourism Australia certification.”

The certified properties are implementing various sustainability initiatives. Mercure Nadi focuses on cultural education and community support, whilst Novotel Nadi engages in environmental activities such as beach clean-ups and sustainable seafood training. Novotel Suva Lami Bay offers cultural experiences and collaborates with local educational institutions.

This expansion into Fiji follows Ecotourism Australia's first international certification in New Zealand in February 2025. The organisation's certification programmes aim to provide tourism businesses with a credible way to demonstrate sustainability, reflecting the increasing demand for such standards across the Pacific.
