Adelaide Airport enhances passenger experience with Amadeus tech

Adelaide Airport is set to revolutionise its passenger experience by implementing advanced self-service technology from Amadeus. This initiative, announced on 20 August 2026, will introduce over 50 seamless bag drop units and 80 self-service kiosks, aiming to reduce queues and enhance operational efficiency.

The new technology includes the Amadeus Seamless Bag Drop units, which can function in both self-service and agent-staffed modes, featuring a side-loading design to accommodate large items like wheelchairs and trolleys. Complementing these are the Amadeus Seamless Kiosks, designed to offer a quick and smooth check-in process for passengers.

A significant aspect of this upgrade is the transition to cloud-based passenger processing technology. This move allows airlines to operate from any check-in or boarding counter, accessing necessary systems via the cloud. The Airport Cloud Use Service (ACUS) is expected to ease airline operations, particularly when launching new routes, by eliminating the need for fixed network connections.

Dermot O’Neill, Executive General Manager at Adelaide Airport, emphasised the broader impact of the upgrade, stating, “This is more than just a technology upgrade. Moving to Amadeus’ solutions for seamless travel helps us maximise the productive use of terminal space, onboard new airline partners more easily, and deliver a more connected experience for passengers.”

Additionally, the airport will implement Amadeus Smart Message, a modern system for message exchange between airlines and baggage infrastructure, replacing the outdated Teletype system. This comprehensive upgrade aims to position Adelaide Airport as a leader in passenger service innovation, enhancing both domestic and international connectivity for South Australia.
