Air Canada has announced the launch of a historic nonstop route between Toronto and Oslo, set to commence on 3 June 2027. This marks the first-ever direct air service connecting Canada and Norway, enhancing Norway's long-haul connectivity and opening new international markets. The seasonal service will operate four times weekly until late October 2027, providing Norwegian travellers direct access to Canada's largest city and facilitating onward connections throughout North America.

The route will utilise the Airbus A321XLR, a new-generation long-range aircraft with a capacity of 182 seats. Flights are scheduled to depart Toronto at 8:30 p.m., arriving in Oslo at 10:00 a.m. the following day, with return flights departing Oslo at 12:15 p.m. and arriving in Toronto at 2:20 p.m. local time. Mark Galardo, Air Canada's Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the significance of this expansion, stating, "Air Canada is bolstering its position in Scandinavia with the addition of Oslo, expanding our network to be the only North American carrier to serve all three Scandinavian capitals."

The new route is expected to boost Norwegian tourism by making the country more accessible to Canadian and American travellers. Aase Marthe Horrigmo, Director of Tourism at Innovation Norway, emphasised the importance of direct air services, noting that they are "essential for developing Norway as an international destination."

Avinor, Norway's airport operator, has been working to expand the country's long-haul route network. Joachim Lupnaav Johnsen, Director of Commercial Management and Development at Avinor, expressed optimism about the new service, stating, "The timing is excellent. Interest in Norway as a destination has grown significantly, and we hope the FIFA World Cup in North America will help generate even more interest."

This new route is seen as a significant step towards securing additional direct links between Norway and North America, potentially paving the way for further connections in the future
