Air Charter Service, a leading aircraft charter specialist, has successfully transported 163 tonnes of machinery from India to Ghana to support a power plant in Kumasi. The shipment, originating from Ahmedabad, included over 110 pieces of equipment, some weighing more than 12.5 tonnes and measuring over 10 metres in length.
Shahvez Jafary, Chief Commercial Officer of ACS’s Indian operations, explained that the client in Mumbai required urgent transportation of the machinery to enhance the power plant's efficiency. "We managed to use only two aeroplanes instead of the initially planned three, meaning a significant saving for our customer," Jafary noted. The operation involved a nose-loading B747 freighter for the largest items and another B747 for the remaining cargo.
The logistics were further complicated by last-minute changes to the packing list, but the team, working closely with the operator’s loadmaster and the client, adapted swiftly. Two external cranes were employed to load the largest items onto the freighter, whilst smaller components were palletised for transport.
Upon arrival in Accra, the machinery was offloaded and transported by lorry to Kumasi, ensuring the power project could proceed without delay. This operation underscores Air Charter Service's capability in handling complex logistics efficiently, contributing to critical infrastructure projects in Ghana.
