Air New Zealand and Air Chathams have announced an expanded interline partnership, enabling more seamless travel for New Zealanders between regional communities. Starting 13 August 2026, this collaboration will allow customers to book a single journey connecting the Chatham Islands and Whanganui with Air New Zealand's domestic network.
The partnership builds on the successful launch of interline services to Whakatāne earlier this year. Air New Zealand's Chief Executive, Nikhil Ravishankar, highlighted the importance of such collaborations in strengthening New Zealand's aviation network. "Seamless connections into our network make a real difference," he stated, emphasising the benefits for regional economies and the ease of travel for customers.
Air Chathams' Chief Executive, Duane Emeny, described the expansion as a significant milestone for the airline and the communities it serves. "This partnership is about opening up more opportunities for the communities we serve," Emeny said, noting the simplified travel for residents and new opportunities for local businesses and tourism.
The announcement coincides with the completion of a new terminal at Inia William Tuuta Memorial Airport, enhancing the gateway to the Chatham Islands. Associate Transport Minister James Meager praised the partnership as a model for strengthening regional connectivity and supporting New Zealand's aviation network resilience.
The expanded network will include routes from Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch to the Chatham Islands, with baggage checked through to final destinations. This initiative aims to bolster regional connectivity and support the long-term growth of New Zealand's aviation sector
