Air New Zealand has reported a significant improvement in its operational performance for June, with 86% of its 12,279 flights arriving within 15 minutes of schedule.

This marks a notable increase from the 78.3% recorded in the same month last year, despite a slight dip from May's record of 89.1%.

Chief Operations Officer, Kate Boyer, highlighted the airline's resilience amidst challenges such as a fire at Wellington Airport and severe winter weather. "June was another solid month for our operations," she stated. "Despite those challenges, our overall on-time performance improved by almost eight percentage points compared with June last year."

A key factor in this improvement was a substantial reduction in reactionary delays, which were cut by more than 50% compared to June last year. This reduction allowed for quicker recovery from disruptions and fewer knock-on delays across the network. Boyer emphasised the importance of reliability, noting, "Every improvement we make means more people arriving on time, making connections, getting home to their families, or starting their holidays and business trips as planned."

Additionally, Air New Zealand saw a decrease in cancellations within its control, dropping to 0.7% from 1.7% last year. Although total cancellations rose to 3.3% due to external factors, the airline's efforts to enhance reliability are evident. Boyer concluded, "Reliable operations are fundamental to delivering for our customers and to our ambition of being the world's most respected airline."
