APT unveils luxury cruise package for Australian Star

The Australian Star, a 38-guest paddlesteamer, will redefine luxury cruising on the Murray River

APT Luxury Travel has announced a new all-inclusive package for the Australian Star, Australia's first five-star river vessel, set to launch in February 2026.

The package offers a saving of $384 (A$600) per couple for bookings made by 31 January 2026.

The Australian Star, a 38-guest paddlesteamer, will redefine luxury cruising on the Murray River with its blend of heritage and modern elegance.

Built by Murray River Paddlesteamers, the vessel is the largest paddlesteamer in the Southern Hemisphere and the only wood-fired, five-star, accommodated paddlesteamer globally.

It features a deluxe lounge, gourmet restaurant, and 19 staterooms with ensuite facilities, air-conditioning, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The vessel's hybrid diesel/steam propulsion system includes a 1907 wood-fired steam engine, adding a nostalgic touch to the journey.

Onboard elegance

APT's exclusive seven-night cruise package departs from Melbourne and includes round-trip coach transport to Echuca, onboard meals and beverages, and guided excursions.

That said, this package combines luxury, history, and the tranquillity of 'slow travel', making it a unique offering in Australia's travel market.

Highlights include a wine tasting at Murray Gums Estate vineyard, a lantern tour of Echuca, and a gourmet barbecue under the stars.

Fares start at $5185 (A$8095) per person, twin-share, with a $192 (A$300) saving per person for early bookings.

The Australian Star promises an immersive experience through the Murray River's landscapes, offering year-round cruises of up to seven nights.
