Berlin has been crowned the world's best luxury opera destination for 2026, according to new research by Pettitts Travel.
The German capital outshone Paris and London, thanks to its impressive 98 opera performances this year, seven opera venues, and a high cultural rating, with venues averaging 4.7 out of 5 on Google reviews.
Berlin's three iconic opera houses—Deutsche Oper, Komische Oper, and Staatsoper Unter den Linden—are highlighted as key attractions for both seasoned opera enthusiasts and newcomers. The city scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in the study, which considered factors such as the number of performances, venue ratings, and luxury dining and accommodation options.
Paris and London complete the top three, with scores of 8.8 and 8.7, respectively. Paris boasts 73 performances and is renowned for its luxury dining, with 519 Michelin-starred restaurants. London, with 56 performances and nine opera venues, offers a rich cultural experience, including the Royal Opera House and Opera Holland Park.
David Pettitt, Head of Product at Pettitts Travel, remarked, “It’s certainly an exciting time for opera lovers – we’re seeing its resurgence in a younger generation of opera lovers as it becomes more ingrained in pop-culture.”
The study suggests a growing interest in opera, with cities like Berlin, Paris, and London offering world-class productions that appeal to a diverse audience. As opera continues to gain popularity, these cities are expected to maintain their status as leading destinations for luxury opera holidays
