The California Science Centre has announced the opening of the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Centre on 13 November 2026. This new facility will serve as the permanent home for the Space Shuttle Endeavour, displayed in a unique 20-storey launch position. The announcement was made by key figures including Lynda Oschin, Holly Mitchell, and former NASA astronaut John Danny Olivas.

The centre, a 200,000-square-foot expansion, will nearly double the Science Centre's exhibit space. It will feature 100 artefacts and interactive exhibits focused on science and engineering. Governor Gavin Newsom highlighted the centre's role in inspiring future generations and its commitment to science education.

The Samuel Oschin Shuttle Gallery, the centrepiece of the new facility, will house the Endeavour and offer a comprehensive educational experience. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the shuttle's history and its role in space exploration through various interactive experiences, including a gantry-style lift ascent and a Shuttle Descent Slide.

Jeffrey Rudolph, President and CEO of the California Science Centre, expressed excitement about the centre's potential to inspire curiosity and learning. The project, supported by over 1,100 donors, has raised nearly $410 million towards its $450 million budget.

General admission to the California Science Centre, including the new centre, will remain free, with timed reservations available for a small fee. For more information, visit the California Science Centre's website
