Cathay Pacific and Cathay Cargo have announced an adjustment to their passenger and cargo fuel surcharges, effective from 1 August 2026, in response to a recent spike in jet fuel prices. This increase follows a period of declining prices since April, which have now risen due to escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported that the global average jet fuel price reached $149.40 (US$149.40) per barrel for the week ending 17 July 2026. This marks a significant rise from $127.06 (US$127.06) per barrel the previous week and $119.13 (US$119.13) per barrel the week before that.

This adjustment is the first increase in surcharges since April, although the current levels remain below the peak experienced that month. Cathay has implemented several reductions in surcharges since May, reflecting the mechanism's ability to adapt to both increases and decreases in fuel prices. The airline continues to review and revise these surcharges fortnightly.

For further details on the updated surcharges, Cathay Pacific and Cathay Cargo have provided links on their respective websites. This move underscores the airline's commitment to adjusting operational costs in line with fluctuating fuel prices, ensuring that pricing remains responsive to market conditions
