Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to ensure a grand inauguration of the Bhogapuram International Airport, set to be opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 August. The airport, completed in a record 31 months, is expected to significantly boost the development of the North Andhra region.
The Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, a world-class greenfield facility, aims to enhance air connectivity and stimulate employment, tourism, and commercial activities. Naidu emphasised the airport as a source of pride for North Andhra and the Telugu people, urging a grand welcome for Modi with traditional Dhimsa and Kuchipudi performances. A Dhimsa dance involving a record number of participants is planned, aiming for a Guinness World Record.
Naidu has also launched a public awareness campaign titled "Wings to the Dreams of North Andhra," targeting women, youth, and students through outreach programmes, quizzes, and competitions. Winners will attend the inauguration ceremony. The campaign will be promoted extensively on social media.
Following the airport's inauguration, Modi will lay foundation stones for various projects worth $216 million (Rs 18,000 crore).
