dnata has started operations at Western Sydney International Nancy-Bird Walton Airport (WSI). The global air and travel services provider supported the airport’s first passenger flights with ground handling and catering services. It provided inflight catering for the first domestic flight on 25 October and ground handling for the first international flight on 26 October.
dnata is investing A$32 million in a new cargo terminal at WSI. The facility is scheduled to open in December and will handle up to 60,000 tonnes of cargo annually. It will initially create about 50 direct jobs, with potential for further growth.
The company is also building a new inflight catering centre at WSI. The facility is scheduled to open in 2027 and produce up to three million meals annually. dnata expects it to create more than 200 direct jobs over the next decade. Until then, the company will provide catering services from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport.
Gareth Rees, Regional CEO of dnata Catering & Retail, welcomed the opportunity to support WSI’s development.
“Our new catering facility represents a significant investment in the region and our future capabilities,” he said.
dnata will also operate The Rayleigh Lounge at WSI. The premium lounge is scheduled to open in November.
The expansion strengthens dnata’s presence in Australia’s aviation sector. The company already employs about 8,000 people in the country and supports more than 107,000 aircraft movements annually.
