Dover Cruise marked the end of its 2026 inaugural season with the arrival of Viking Mira on 24 September. The four-month-old ship, part of a 12-night cruise from Bergen to London, was the last of five inaugural calls this year at the Port of Dover. This season saw 26 visits from Viking Cruises, with Viking Saturn concluding operations on 1 October, highlighting a year of growth for the Kent port.
Peter Wright, Head of Cruise at the Port of Dover, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Viking, noting that over 25,000 visitors explored local attractions, a 30% increase from the previous year. "Many of the world's largest cruise lines are choosing to operate from here, reinforcing Dover's position as a leading UK cruise destination," he stated.
Wendy Atkin-Smith, Managing Director of Viking UK, highlighted Viking Mira's role in expanding guest experiences beyond the Mediterranean. "With its rich maritime history and spectacular views of the iconic White Cliffs, our guests always enjoy visiting Dover," she said. Atkin-Smith also announced the upcoming debut of Viking Libra, the world's first hydrogen-powered cruise ship, set to visit Dover in 2027.
Looking ahead, the Port of Dover anticipates 34 calls from Viking Cruises in 2027 and 39 in 2028, further solidifying its status as a premier cruise destination.
