Dusit Hotels and Resorts, a division of Dusit International, has become a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), marking a significant advancement in its sustainability efforts. This membership aligns with Dusit's strategy to integrate responsible tourism practices across its global operations, which span 290 properties in 18 countries.
GSTC, a non-profit organisation, unites public and private stakeholders to promote sustainable tourism worldwide. By joining GSTC, Dusit gains access to a global network focused on knowledge-sharing and collaboration in responsible tourism. Chanin Donavanik, Group CEO and Chairman of the Sustainability Committee at Dusit International, stated, "Joining GSTC marks an important step in our journey as we expand internationally."
Central to Dusit's sustainability strategy is the Tree of Life programme, which aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This initiative focuses on energy and water efficiency, waste management, and community engagement. Dusit has implemented energy management systems and renewable energy solutions, such as solar installations, at several properties, including Dusit Thani Maldives and Dusit Beach Resort Guam.
Water conservation measures and wastewater treatment systems are also in place, with treated water reused for irrigation. The group is reducing single-use plastics by introducing refillable amenities and reusable water bottles. Additionally, Dusit addresses food waste through minimisation, redistribution, and composting.
Beyond environmental efforts, Dusit has joined The Code to protect children from exploitation and signed the World Travel & Tourism Council Declaration on Illegal Trade in Wildlife. Community initiatives like Dusit Smiles have raised over $370,000 (THB 13 million) for children's surgeries in Thailand. Randy Durband, CEO of GSTC, welcomed Dusit, highlighting their shared commitment to sustainable tourism
