Emirates expands autism-friendly travel rehearsals globally

Emirates has successfully expanded its autism-friendly travel rehearsal programme to more than 40 cities worldwide, benefiting over 250 families. These rehearsals, designed to support children and young adults with autism, allow participants to practise navigating airports, thereby reducing travel anxiety and empowering them to fly with confidence.

Since April 2025, Emirates has collaborated with airport authorities and partners to conduct these rehearsals in cities including Dubai, London, and Sydney. The programme, initially launched in Dubai, received positive feedback, prompting its global rollout. More than 35,000 Emirates staff have been trained to assist customers with autism, ensuring a supportive experience.

Sami Aqil Abdullah, Senior Vice President of Emirates Airport Services Outstation & Business Support, stated, “The Emirates Travel Rehearsal programme has been a resounding success across 6 continents, with impressive collaboration and drive shown by all stakeholders.”

The rehearsals involve participants engaging in a simulated airport journey, including check-in, baggage drop, and security procedures. In some locations, access to real aircraft is provided, enhancing the experience. Feedback from families and autism organisations has been overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the programme's impact on easing travel fears.

As the world's first autism-certified airline, Emirates aims to continue expanding this initiative, fostering inclusivity and accessibility in air travel. The programme's success has set a precedent, encouraging other airlines to consider similar initiatives
