Europe has solidified its status as the world's premier leisure travel destination, capturing one-third of global leisure travel spending in 2025, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).

The data, sponsored by Chase Travel, reveals that global leisure travel expenditure reached $6.15 trillion, with Europe attracting $2 trillion, or $1 in every $3 spent worldwide.

Southern Europe, particularly France, Spain, Italy, and Türkiye, remains a focal point for travellers, driven by strong international demand and diverse tourism offerings. These countries benefit from robust connectivity and world-class attractions, making them highly sought-after summer destinations.

The region's tourism performance not only reflects strong seasonal demand but also highlights its long-term competitiveness. In 2025, leisure spending growth was resilient, with France expanding by 3.6%, Spain by 2.6%, and Italy by 2.2%.

Looking forward, Europe's growth momentum is expected to continue into 2026, with a forecasted expansion of 3.7%, surpassing the global average of 3.1%.
