UI/UX Designer
Shep, an Austin-based startup that was acquired by Flight Centre Travel Group in 2021, is looking for a UI/UX Designer. This is a full-time hire position with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Shep’s parent company, Flight Centre Travel Group is based in Brisbane, Australia, and is one of the world’s largest travel agency groups with company-owned operations in 23 countries and a corporate travel management network that spans more than 90 countries.
Our Product and Vision Shep was founded with the vision that transparent data and ubiquitous communication could transform business travel for the good of the traveler and the travel manager. We use web browser extension technology to overlay messaging and user interaction elements on top of corporate and consumer travel sites while collecting behavioral data to better predict and support future travelers.
Respsonsibilities:
The UI/UX designer will work with the Shep product team to drive a full stack of design priorities from concept to final implementation to testing; balancing craft, expediency, and technical feasibility. This role will be a bridge between development and design and should understand the connections and interplay between both.
Develop and improve digital design artifacts and deliverables including UI sketches, visual styling, wireframes, interactive mockups, prototypes, features, and customer flows UI/UX Designer 3 Perform competitive research and audits using best in class paradigms across a variety of industries and stages of development for usefulness, usability, visual design, content, and branding
Understand how HTML, CSS, Javascript and other front-end web languages and technologies function and how their strengths and limitations affect the user interface
Seek intuitive and innovative approaches to interaction and visual design
Function in a highly technical and diverse environment, assuming the best in people
Interrogate and advocate for the best experience, balancing consistency and moving fast while juggling ambiguity without drowning in it — dogmatic without being oppressively so
Be able to communicate and specify design methodology to any person in the company without ambiguity and within deadlines across all our products and concerns
Practice a highly efficient, iterative process with light documentation to support your vision, user principles, and design priorities
Able to turn off your ego, juggling working independently with collaboration and taking direction depending on the task at-hand
Interfacing with stakeholders and customers to present and collect feedback
Conduct testing to verify design to implementation adherence
Requirements:
3-6 years of experience as User Experience and/or User Interface Designer,
Interaction Designer, or similar role
Knowledge of and experience with technologies used in web site front-ends,
including SASS, SCSS, CSS and HTML. Applicants who can style the front end of
their designs themselves will be given special consideration.
A strong portfolio with demonstrated examples of designing excellent user-centered
experiences and applications
Excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational, and client interaction skills
Working knowledge of modern UI/UX technologies and software, such as: Figma, Sketch, InVision, Visio, Design Systems, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Knowledge of wireframe tools (e.g., Wireframe.cc and InVision) and/or prototyping tools.
Be familiar with the design of and approaches used in widely used web apps
An eye for detail with a vision for the big picture
An openness to feedback and critique and a willingness to provide options and iterate on designs
Knowledge of Accessibility Standards and able to design towards them
Above all, must be curious
Travel industry experience is considered a plus
Experience with browser extensions
Mobile-first experience
Graphic Design for marketing and sales assets including presentations, decks and gifs
