Accor, in collaboration with Hersonissos Group Hotels, has announced the development of the Fairmont Chania Resort on Crete, marking Fairmont Hotels & Resorts' debut in Greece. Scheduled to open in 2029, the 104-key resort aims to enhance Accor's luxury portfolio in the Mediterranean region. Omer Acar, CEO of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, highlighted the resort as a "landmark moment" for the brand, emphasising its commitment to offering meaningful guest experiences rooted in local culture.
Located on Crete's northwest coast, the resort will blend the island's ancient culture with modern luxury. Guests will enjoy direct access to a sandy beach, a sophisticated beach club, and a range of dining options, including five dining concepts and a speciality restaurant. The resort will also feature a 900 square-metre wellness centre and facilities for destination weddings and family activities.
Georgios Kaloutsakis, CEO of Hersonissos Group Hotels, expressed pride in introducing Fairmont to Greece, aiming to create a resort that reflects Crete's heritage and beauty. The architectural design, led by Luciano Mazza, will draw inspiration from Chania's Venetian history, whilst interior designer Inge Moore and landscape designer Phil Jaffa will ensure a seamless integration with the island's natural surroundings.
Xavier Grange, Global Chief Development Officer for Accor Luxury Brands Europe-North Africa, noted that this development reinforces Accor's confidence in the Greek market and its partners. Upon completion, the resort will join Fairmont's expanding portfolio in Europe and North Africa, further solidifying its reputation for luxury hospitality.
