Garmin has unveiled its latest innovation, the AXIS flight display system, designed to streamline cockpit functionality for both certified and experimental aircraft. This new system, launched on 8 July 2026, combines flight display, IFR GPS, NAVCOMM, and audio panel capabilities into a single unit, offering a modern and integrated solution for pilots.

The AXIS system is available in three display sizes—11.6-inch landscape, 8-inch portrait, and 8-inch landscape—and can be configured as either a primary flight display (PFD) or multifunction display (MFD). It supports both certified and experimental aircraft, providing flexibility in installation. The displays feature responsive touchscreens and physical controls, enhancing user interaction and situational awareness.

A standout feature of AXIS is its integration of IFR GPS, COMM radio, NAV radio, and audio panel into a single display, simplifying installation and reducing aircraft weight. The system supports advanced navigation and communication functions, including standby COMM monitoring and Bluetooth connectivity for music and phone calls.

Carl Wolf, Garmin's Vice President of Aviation Sales, Marketing, and Support, stated, "AXIS sets the new standard for what pilots can expect from an integrated flight display system."

The AXIS system also enhances safety with features like Smart Glide, which assists in emergencies by navigating to the nearest aerodrome, and Runway Occupancy Awareness, which alerts pilots to potential runway incursions. The system's Engine Indication System (EIS) provides real-time engine data, aiding in better engine management.

Available for certified and experimental aircraft, the 11.6-inch displays have received FAA and EASA Technical Standard Order approval and are available from July, with the 8-inch displays expected in early 2027
